Simply..stylish....

I've spent this rainy day re-reading my own posts under this heading and sorting out, or 'curating' my wardrobe.

There are quite a lot of posts under Simply Stylish. See especially Aug and Oct 2014 if you are also planning a wardrobe sort.

I took my own advice and looked at my wardrobe and asked myself how I feel looking at what is there. Because it has worked so well for me over a few years now I was a little surprised at how many negative feelings came up...

There is the nice dress I wore to Barry's funeral. Will I really ever want to wear it again?

I feel almost taunted by the unworn summer clothes (we have really had no summer to speak of!)

I feel a bit guilty at the number of things I had meant to get altered and never got around to.

I feel enbarassed likewise that there are several things there which are overdue a dry clean.

I feel so frustrated that I cannot buy exact replacements of my real favourites which are wearing out.

And I have to confess there are many things hanging there which I have loved and which have served me well but which I have to accept are past their best :-(

And I may just have crossed the line between subtle and drab!

Work to do, and to enjoy.

Favourite necklace (Topshop) and scarf (Sahara).

Will you join me in an October revamp?

it is so interesting what comes up for us when we sort, isn't it, Freda...and i am risking it when i say that perhaps marie kondo is not correct when she suggests we only need to do this once...we change, our circumstances and our needs change...and so do styles! i have sometimes regretted (for a moment) letting go of a piece of jewelry or clothing..but ..oh well!
i brought very few summer clothes to the lake with me, but true to what everyone says, i've worn the same 20%...now for the courage to let go of the rest! i'm on board with you..

Hurrah Julia! I think the Kondoing major clearing was a one off, but now it is a much smaller job or a few replacements, a few adjustments - maybe something fresh...You will find the courage I am sure!

Have to laugh about worn out clothing still in my closet. I get dressed for work in the dark (4 am) and sometimes have been shocked when I leave my office in full daylight to see that some things I have worn are really a bit shabby. Oh well!

Not sure I will have the time to curate in October, but I definitely want to go through my clothing and donate still-wearable things. As I approach retirement, my clothing needs will be reduced further. No more meetings! No need to hang on to professional clothing, shoes, etc.. Thank goodness. Probably won't get serious about this until sometime in the new year.

That will be a big change Mary. My biggest change is using public transport instead of driving - it means more things in case the weather changes, and less chance to wear the more delicate shoes for example. You can have an interesting time thinking and planning for this major lifestyle change I expect.

Hm, yes, this decluttering lark doesn't eliminate the need to shop, really, does it?! I have to admit that youth and inexperience of were my main criticisms of Kondo from the first book - I wonder if she'll revise at a later date and with more "life" having changed her!
Good luck finding replacement favourites - I still find it's trial and error once things have been washed and worn - only then can you really decide!

Marie Kondo has two children now - that must mean a big lifestyle change! I have to do some serious shopping now....

Love the bird shadows! I agree with Julia that we will probably have to Kondo things like clothes throughout our lives because we do change and they are such a personal thing. Very few of mine feel like 'me' now and like you say the ones that do are getting very worn out! I've got to work with what I've got at the moment so my revamp will be about finding new ways to wear things - different combinations, different ways of layering etc. Creating a new look!

I think the Kondo was a once only major sort and that now it's a question of tweaking it only! Good luck with your new look - a lovely challenge, and fun I hope.

I'm late for settling on my Autumn/Winter capsule wardrobe, so I will love to do it alongside you! I shop my own closet for the most part though, I didn't follow kondo's advice on clothes because my system works rather well for me.

Wonderful to have something that works well for you! And the 'capsule wardrobe' is a great concept (so is shopping your own closet!)
