Simply..stylish....

A chance lighting effect. Flowers under a lamp are always lovely. These little roses remind me of summer. Yes, as is my habit, I am still resisting autumn!

What I thought was going to be a 'tweaking' of my wardrobe has turned into something more.

It seemed a good idea to put all the things I rarely or never wear - you know the ones you put on but always put back on the hanger - into one pile -it's huge!

Now how ruthless do I want to be? I suppose the answer will be in looking at the pile and asking myself of each thing 'How does it make me feel?' and 'Would I buy it today?'

Reminding myself of how I want my clothes to make me feel....

I think my favourite charity shop is about to get a big donation.

Thank you for sharing your good ideas!

Guilty is how I feel. My biggest problem is the remorse I feel about having spent too much on something I never wear. I must have half a dozen items that fit this category. I have bought them when trying to up my game sartorially for a special event. And then I just can't follow through. Much though I loved them on the page or in the shop, I just don't have the chutzpah to wear them. I might look into altering one coat made from vintage saris. That could work. For the rest, I must just forgive my folly and let them go I suppose.

Do forgive yourself unconditionally. And you might consider gently practicing chutzpah? I will join you in both endeavours Lucille!

Lovely roses. A spotlight on the waning days of summer. Frankly, I won't miss summer--in the 80s and humid again today--blech. Hurricane rain remnants heading up our way later on.

Once I got through my things, a local charity will, likewise, be a big winner. I will be ruthless, too, but consider it as something good: others need these items more than I do. And it goes to a good cause.

There are so many winners when you donate things. We get the space, someone gets a job in a charity shop, someone gets a bargain, and the charity get to help someone who needs it.

Are there any little sparks of joy in that pile Freda? I've always loved how Marie Kondo manages a compassionate form of ruthlessness. I wonder if there is a word for that? I can't think of an English one, but maybe there is something appropriate in Japanese. It's nice to think that what doesn't spark joy for you now will be sparking joy for someone soon... no shortage of joy to go around!

'A compassionate form of ruthlessness' - that is a perfect way of putting it Lotta!

I'm with Lucille in lacking the chutzpah to wear some of the nice things in my wardrobe. I've been wondering, though. From where does this need/ability to dress well come? Do stylish women learn from their mothers?
The fact is, my mother died when I was very young. I don't remember her, know nothing about her tastes or style, and missed out on everything that a mother might pass on to her daughter. Does an attitude to clothes come into this? Because while I feel I should make more of an effort,I just never seem to get around to it in the way that other people do. My Gran was a farmer's wife, born in the late 1800's and always dressed (unstylishly) in black, so no lessons there! I remember that some of the dresses I inherited from my sister were lovely, made from beautiful cloth with fine detailing. Not cheap. But that all went by-the-way by the time I had any clothes of my own.
Where did you get your interest in clothes from, Freda? Anyone? I would really like to know!

And I would really like to answer Linda! What a lovely and fascinating question. Tomorrow's post....

I had to smile - if I was at home I would reciprocate with the vase of flowers sitting on "my" red console table (I suspect the same as yours!) under a different lamp... ;)
However, it's greetings from Brittany from me - rain and just a few hydreangeas left!! Oh, and a very minimalist holiday wardrobe featuring handknits well-suited to the weather :o

Hurrah for the cosy clothes (loved the shawl in Portugal). And hope the rain stops soon - we are getting a few dry hours a day with watery sunshine now and then.
