Simply..that bowl of spaghetti....

I need to spend a day, or maybe two, dealing with loose ends.

I will start by making the apology I made in December 2014!

Then I will try to think of a way to make it less tedious - Make it fun, it will get done and all that

Any ideas? All I've got at the moment is a sinking feeling...

I did add a little red to my decorations and that perked me up a little...

A glass of mulled wine? I have to admit, it's a bit early in the morning for that!

..but later in the day when I was writing my Christmas cards I did enjoy a glass of wine and an extra log on the fire.

Pop them into a list with 5 other things to be done and then stick to working your way down the list. I did it yesterday with 2 tasks that I had been dreading. Found that if I sneaked up on them it made it easier. A great big tick next to them and a treat afterwards helped as well. Loving your decorations.

Oh lists are good Sheena - well done. Big ticks can make you feel ridiculously good, can't they!

Freda, what came to mind for me was far more serious..maybe the mood i am in! Pensive, and noticing that this year, i simply cannot do as much as i used to. And all my friends are saying the same thing.
In any case, what popped into my mind when i read your post and the other from dec 2014, were the words of pema chodron, a great buddhist teacher: “abandon hope”! It’s from her book: when things fall apart. You can read quite a few essays online about her views on abandoning hope. And they are not as “hopeless” as one would expect..in fact, i feel more cheerful already, just contemplating abandoning hope...:-)
Cheers! And i hope (!) this helps!

tell me about abandoning hope, Julia. to me that sounds so sad. there are times when I feel all I have left is hope. and then to abandon it, I would just be bereft.

I am wondering Cathy if it is perhaps more about abandoning unrealistic expectations? Like having time right now to look into it? :-)

Now I have listened to some Pema Chodron videos Julia though not this aspect. Interesting in a passive/active way if you get my meaning. Subtle concepts...

For anyone who was puzzled by my comment to abandon hope..here is a link to a good explanation...:-)
It is not helplessness...it’s really that when we finally make peace with this moment and accept it...we are free...

How about tying all the loose ends together and calling them a decoration? A sailor's knot to keep you from sinking? :)

I could make a wreath out of them! I have not made one yet this year...

The weight of loose ends can weigh one down into a sense of failure, exhaustion and sadness. Especially when added to them is a self imposed time limit.

Why not carry a few loose ends over that imaginary boundery between the 31 of december and the first of January? Or asking if there is a way to pick up a loose end, that would make it more easy to handle and as a part of an ongoing possibly even fun process?

Maybe your loose ends have something in common. And looking at them as a whole, not from the level of the loose end but from one level higher (the eagle's view instead of the mouse's) might give you a whole new and freeing solution.

This year is the first year for me that I refuse to step into the end of the year loose ends pitfall. I want to live my life as a continuity, as a spiral. There is and will be unfinished business alas and I will be falling short in many ways. That is not an easy thing to acknowledge but as long as I know I am working hard to be the best person I can be it is okay.

I wonder if you and Julia are on a similar wavelength here....
I love the idea of the eagle's view!
Thank you for this Cath.
