Simply..the final frontier....

When I have Kondoed the shed I will have gone through every single item I own.

I have to confess it has been quite exhausting at times, both physically and emotionally.

Decision fatigue.

And the sentimental is by far the hardest (I have corralled all the photographs and letters), though there is little of sentimental value in the dreaded shed!

Go in as an explorer Freda, and marvel at the strange items and interesting artefacts... then take forward only the things that will help in your new life beyond the final frontier! Good luck and bon voyage!

Imagine not only having `gone through every item you own' but having asked yourself over and over again 'does this spark joy' and the all important: knowing - after the dreaded shed- the answer to that for everything you own is a yes.

And then imagine what would be the best way to celebrate this.

And the dreaded shed? Remember you have had so much practice
with all kinds of categories, I wouldn't be surprised if clearing the shed becomes an act of playful joy. Maybe imagining asking the child inside how to approach it might help?

The spaces I have done do feel very ery good and a visitor today described my house as 'peaceful' :-) Love your ideas Cath. Thank you.

This is how I imagine it : old coat, woolly hat, boots, whistling up the courage to begin; black bags, carriers, boxes, dust, spiders; lifting and dragging, sighing, geeing up; elbow-cracking, shin-barking, swearing. But the threshold's been crossed to a new space, a calm place.

I read this dedication and liked it a lot :

'For the Brothers of the Order of the Holy Cross, who have crossed many thresholds and encouraged others to do the same.' (Esther de Waal). By no stretch of the imagination are we the Brothers of the Holy Cross, ( nor do we want to be ?), but by daily attempting to cross some threshold, whatever it is, we make ourselves a place to stand.
This is how I view this blog - as giving women like me a place to stand.

(Big talk: my clearing out - a vest, some coasters, my daughter's PE bag, her name embroidered on it by me 28 years ago. Have hung onto it, but now it's gone.)

Yes. It takes courage to attempt to cross a threshold every day.
Sometimes the threshold is just getting up: sitting up, swinging one's legs over the edge of the bed and planting feet on the floor, and deciding that it's another day to be lived.

Thank you Rosemary you conjure up a wonderful image! Thresholds literal and metaphorical have been and will be crossed.

The dreaded shed ... icy cold, dark, musty, spiders ....I think that bribery is required: a hot chocolate per 2 hours' work, then a hot toddy or wee dram of single malt at the end of your work shift.

Bribery! Yes...
I hadn't thought of that.

I'm in the "treats"-camp Freda....think up a really nice treat for yourself...and have one every time you make a dent. expect some surprises and hopefully it won't be too bad...just think if we were all there to be carting things away for you! at least you have a cheering section, who are very interested to hear how it goes and wish you well...:-) sending love!

You brave girl ! I agree with regular treats as an incentive . My excuse for avoiding the dreaded shed is that it is always the wrong weather ! Too wet , too frosty etc. Truth is that there are sentimental boxes lurking in there since we cleared my parents house 10 years ago !!

Oh my! It's not easy is it, dealing with the emotions that go with the stuff.

And as we all know, only too well, that is really what all the stuff is about anyway....like the “stuff”, we’ve been putting it in the shed to be dealt with “later”. Just think how liberated you will feel when this is done...the last frontier, indeed!

I am actually excited at the thought of having this behind me. Many of the clearing tasks were one off tasks - never to be done again - that is very liberating!

My best advice is wear gloves. Sheds harbour the worst sort of ingraining dirt. Mine is rather too full of other people's stuff. I can't face it yet and neither can they unfortunately.
I look forward to seeing you on the other side!
