Simply..the soap trick....

To deter deer place slivers of leftover  soap or beter still, cubes of the cheapest, smelliest supermarket soap close to special plants and/or around the perimeter of your garden, or where you knw they are getting in. They don't like the smell. Works for me!

The vinegar trick. Vinegar will kill off the weeds n a gravel drive.

And the hose trick from Bath Chatto. To mark out curves lay out a (warm) hose and cut the line either side with an edging iron.  I am planning a metal strip along this edge.

If the weather stays bright today I might get out and paint those garden chairs.it’s not looking too promising though. Perhaps I’ll make biscuits instead.

I got the first coat onto the upper surfaces of one Adirondack chair before it clouded with intent. Fortunately, it held off with the rain until the stain was weatherproof.

Your Spring garden looks lovely. That yellow gate always makes me smile. We had a covering of snow last night so everything looks a bit shocked rather than trying to get going ! I have used the hosepipe idea with great success but didn't know about the vinegar treatment. We have lots of gravel paths and it's a constant battle with the weeds . Do you use it neat or diluted ? Fortunately we don't have deer visiting . There are rabbits ,foxes and squirrels a plenty and even a polecat for couple of weeks last year .

We used the vinegar meat in a spray bottle. The friend who recommended this also sprinkles salt afterwards. Will keep you informed! I hope your garden recovers quickly from the shock of the snow.
