Simply..the sweet spot....

Marie Kondo in her book The Life Changing Magic Of Tidying (I'm still working with this!) talks of the 'click point' when you finally have your stuff whittled down to the point where you have 'no more than you can properly handle'.

Don't you think that sounds sane?

I think I am very close that point in the sittingroom. It is the room I can best relax in - calm, peaceful, pleasurable. I know what's in it (only things I love) and I can lay hands easily on what I want. It's not perfect. It is good enough. Good enough to function well and to give us real comfort and pleasure.

I plan for all the rooms to feel like this in 2015.

I also plan to visit Harris again, see the  Audrey Hepburn exhibition in London this summer, open the studio at weekends from Easter to October and to do something special in February (my writing month).

I like making plans.

They mostly work out!

Do you have plans for 2015?

Your sitting room sounds heavenly. What I like about having just what I can handle is how little time it takes to maintain. I'm certainly not there yet, but on my way. I almost feel guilty when I've accomplished my to-do list for the day and still have free time for reading, for knitting, for writing letters...whatever strikes my fancy. Yesterday I went to see the movie Into The Woods.

The plan I have right now for 2015 is to read 1 banned book each month. Not very adventuresome, but I think there will be some growth (my 2015 word) by doing this.

I too appreciate that it takes less time to do housework when you have less stuff! Brilliant. That's an adventurous, and unusual, reading plan!

Generally I am not a maker of plans or a maker of lists - I always think of them as tempting fate - I prefer to just go with the flow.

hi freda, i love the idea...right now, we have 3 rooms which i would consider to be at the "click point". but mostly that is because i have far to much in OTHER rooms! am looking forward to moving ahead with the other spaces this year. everyday, something must leave this house for good, and hopefully, less will enter than leaves!

The incentive I find is in acknowleldging just how good it feels to be in the cleared rooms. Good luck!

'The good enough' point is what I'd like to achieve with 'my room of my own' this year. That has priority as it is the room where I rest in the afternoon. Other than reading and writing plans I don't make any, but in those categories I do have a few and I so much like making them. I'm looking forward to your February plans already.

Good luck with your room of your own project and your reading and writing plans Cath.

I gave three copies of Marie Kondo at Christmas and am generally getting very positive feedback from the recipients. I must restart my efforts.

Great! I like the idea that some of us are doing this together and will post a progress report on Fridays I think (just saying that motivates me!)

Those sound good plans! I need to read Marie's book and shall have to look at the details of the Audrey Hepburn exhibition. Sarah x
