Simply..wanting....

..my husband to get rid of his boxes and boxes of books in the loft! He has a wall of bookshelves with books three deep in the study, and if he lives to 105 he's not going to have time to read them all, meanwhile those in the loft have to come down and sit somewhere, while we get more insulation put in. Perfect opportunity for some editing wouldn't you think?

I am also wanting peace on earth, snow this Christmas and my family to be perfectly safe forever....please.

I'd love to know what you are wanting.

This unusual rowan is outside our local surgery.

I'm enjoying reading articles from the New Yorker magazine. Today a fairly long and indepth article on the rather astonishing life and writing practice of Hilary Mantel, whose book Wolf Hall I so enjoyed while on holiday in York (see here).

Just found your blog and have enjoyed going thru your posts. I also read the article you mentioned from the New Yorker on Hillary Mantel - so interesting. I, like you, am engaged in my very own style of simple living. As for what I'm wanting - good health and happiness for my loved ones, and yes, peace on earth.

I echo your sentiments for the wish for peace on earth. Could I urge you to also strive for it as well as want it. It won't happen simply by wishing. We all need to engage in whatever way we can. If you are already active in doing so, I applaud you and thank you!

Something really worth striving for I agree!

Stuff or space? space or stuff ?-mutually exclusive desires. Your husband will just have to decide which he wants. Worse thing that could happen if he gets rid of tons of books but later wants one particular book, he'll have to pay retail to buy the replacement.

Problem is I want the space and he wants the stuff! (I will remind him of the worst thing that can happen...) Thanks Gail.

I'm wanting a long rest this Christmas and some time for myself to gather my thoughts.
PS We have books in our loft too - one of them is The Whole Earth Catalogue which has fond memories for us of our Art College years and the movement towards peace and 'green' living way back in the early 70's - I am so glad I lived my best years in the seventies - what I wonder went wrong to produce our capitalist and consumer society we have ended up with. I wish you lots of peace and good health this Christmas. Viv x

Exactly the same as you re husband's books. These are housed in a floor to ceiling alcove bookshelf sagging under the weight of untouched business and technical books.

we are having the same conversations at our house regarding basement and attic full of books and magazines....i wonder if it is a guy thing....
and yes it is so easy to acquire too much, and also to become too busy....we are beginning peace in our household by choosing a simple and quiet thanksgiving day together rather than being part of a large gathering.
