Simply..whimsical....

...(and I don't mean cutesie-tootsie as in bunnies and kitty-cats wearing clothes!).

One of my drawing students produced a stunningly good and powerful piece of work when I asked her to do something whimsical and Julia sent me a wonderful spontaneous looking piece called Sending Valentines on a Snowy Day which she described as a bit of whimsy.

I bought this book , which I've mentioned before, called My Heart Wanders by Pia Jane Bijerk a few years ago because it was so different from the goal oriented kinds of books I was more used to. (I've no affilliation with Amazon by the way - I just thought you might like to read the blurb!)

It made me think that being whimsical - which I think of as being light of heart - is another way of being that I could try out for size now and then.

Playful rather than purposeful, delicate rather than bold, shades of grey (no not that book!) rather than primary colours, subtle, random, accepting ambiguity, tentative, open to different interpretations, the poetry not the prose.

I want to wander Paris with my camera....or maybe Venice (now there's a tempting thought!)

I wanted to be a Rebel, I really did, but the answers just didn't come up that way. I'm an Obliger, through & through.

I'm a rebel, which explains why I only do supply teaching as I can't bear the planning and ridiculous continual assessment and record keeping in our education system now...... I could go on......(and on and on....)and why I can have good, healthy habits for months and months and then just think "no" one morning. I've really enjoyed reading Gretchen's new book, but it didn't give me much insight about how a rebel can adopt good habits, as in practically every chapter she says "this doesn't apply for rebels" or something similar!

That's why I gave up teaching in schools too! Sounds like you should write the book on How Rebels Can Adopt Good Habits! I've not read it - just her blog.

I did do the quiz but felt irritated. Then I read some of the comments and realised that my irritation probably had to do with who I am v. who I think I am or who I want to be or how I think others may perceive me to be…eeek, maybe I should just read the book!! (I read the two happiness ones and quite enjoyed them.)

A reluctant obliger here. Quite disappointing, as I thought I had moved on a little from there. A bit slow also as I ordered her 'The Happiness Project' this morning. Still thinking about the second one about The Happy Home and haven't even begun to think about this new one yet.
maybe you'd share your impressions? And how I love whimsicality, whimsicalness?

I liked The Happiness Project. Happiness at Home not so much. I didn't think it had any new insights really. But the latest book seems to cover new ground. She's smart and funny!
