..have the family midsummer barbecue on the beach? The forecast isn't good but it's not looking too bad...

They've been wrong before so you never know.

Finish cooking the food (can't believe Jamie says this takes only 15 minutes!).

Try to get the stain out of the jacket. Should have worn an apron.

Checklist - champagne, glasses, napkins, picnic quilts, umbrella, midge cream.

Look at the weather forecast for the ninth time.

Look up the glen. Uh-oh.

We ended up indoors with a log fire and pretty decorations (thanks Jennie) and had a lovely feast then donned wellies and sweaters for a walk on the beach.

Family, friends, food and wine, laughter and good conversation.

Absolutely wonderful.

It is the family and friends who make the day as I said when I was cycling round Cumbrae on Saturday and looked up to see, most probably, the very same cloud. Glad you had a lovely day.

Is there an explanation for not getting stains when wearing an apron and getting stains when not? I'd like to know the secret.

It sounds like a lovely midsummer family barbecue, it feels like a healing circle.

What a shame your BBQ was rained off, your indoor picnic looked a perfect alternative. I have never been able to achieve Jamie in 15 minutes either! Sarah x

I am intrigued with the idea of a very "swish" dress and beautiful shoes for a beach bbq!...how does that work?..:-)
We had our family celebration indoors as well that day. The wind was just too fierce to eat outdoors. Later,it died down and there was a bonfire and fireworks on the beach for canada day.

Happy (belated) Canada Day! The dress is just a cotton straight shift I bought for hot days which have not happened yet, and I'd probably have worn sandshoes but a girl can dream!

A picnic is always fun inside or out. Glad you had a lovely day - the anticipation of the weather is typically British - we had the same with our daughters wedding day last July.
