Sinply..calm....

Watching the moon rise, examining a flower, planting bulbs or sweeping leaves or having a soothing bath, I find I need to focus for a little time every day on something calming to counteract the world of the news media (which to me recently looks on the verge of hysteria).

What do you do to stay sane and calm?!

Your photo exudes peace and tranquillity so hope it helped keep you calm. Watching the birds in the garden, gazing at the night sky and going for a walk among trees all seem to help me forget the turmoil reported in the news. We all need to switch off (literally) at times.

I can get hooked on the news every now and then. Must use the off switch!

Lovely lovely peaceful photo, Freda. I find myself watching shadows when I am walking. They are everywhere and I look very closely. That helps me be present as opposed to worrying about the future. I also feel like the more peaceful we can be as individuals the more peace is sent out into the Universe.

I sao agree with your last sentence. Do you know Robert Louis Stevenson’s poem my shadow? I can still recited having learned it in about primary two.

A dog on my knee, a coffee enjoying my view of horses and Yorkshire moors from the back door, Elizabethan lute music, writing Sherlock fanfic, the fresh taste of apples and pears from my own trees.........making chutney. Simple things.

What an interesting list! I would love to know whereabouts in North Yorkshire you are.

Funnily enough I suddenly really missed my long ago dog today...

My own Swedish house was in Rawcliffe, near Goole. I am now at East Ardsley near Wakefield, closer to my daughter.

I don’t really know that part of Yorkshire, though I have once visited Hepworth Museum which I thought was wonderful! Lovely to be near your daughter.

My knitting. A constant calm in the midst of it all.

Lots of heritage sites, plus the Yorkshire Sculpture park. The Hepworth is wonderful. As far as Yorkshire goes (am not a native) Eat York s is the place for me. Terrific churches, great museums in Hull, a much underrated city) and the very special Ferens Art Gallery.
