A sweet pea! Fifteen plants and barely a flower. I don't know why. Today was an unexpectedly lovely day and I put off the shopping to spend the whole day in the garden. Bruschetta and a glass of Merlot for lunch. Simply delicious.

Something’s whacky w flowering plants this year. I had 100s of impatiens pop up this year- 90% faded away. My rose of Sharon and American beauty berry have less than half their normal amount of flowers. And so on. I’m in tidewater area of Virginia where we’re experiencing our usual summer mix of no rain, then downpours and constant humidity

Those sound like tricky climate conditions for gardening , but lots of people are saying things are tricky this year.

how disappointing about the sweet peas, but what a delightful way to spend the afternoon... much better than shopping.

Definitely the right decision yesterday. I caught up with the shopping today which was very cool and dull.

It's been that sort of season. I had to sow runner bean twice to get any to appear; broad beans grew but had few flowers and fewer beans, a whole pack of wild flowers failed altogether, and I have no idea where one batch of poppies went - other than west! Mind you, the teasels have flourished and are eight feet tall..Christmas dried flower arrangements, anyone?

You win some you lose some. I have filled totally with dahlias this year. The teasels sound spectacular.

Always enjoy “being” in the garden with you.

That's frustrating for you . I also agree that it has been a funny growing season. We've had flowers in abundance but courgettes failed to do anything and the tomatoes only now have teeny green fruit . I love the photos of the metal bowl water feature .

Maybe we will have wonderful tomatoes and sweet peas in August. You never know..

I agree with Gail about a strange year for flowering plants - scented leaf geraniums have mostly turned up their toes (should that be roots?), but the sweet peas are reaching for the skies with unusually long flower stalks.

My sweet peas have been developing little flower pots, which then fall off! Frustrating.

This may sound ungenerous and wrong but I'm so glad it's not just me being dreadfully disappointed with sweet peas this year! Also my tomatoes are sparse and still very very green! Gah.
