A Simple Christmas....

A Simple Christmas and a quiet one.

I've been browsing my own Simply Christmas posts and getting tearful.

Someone (it may have been a child) said 'Tears let the sad out' and it's true.

I will post the simplest of posts this season - maybe just photographs - or little references to happy Christmases past like this one.

Some lovely things are planned, and I have friends and family to share them with, and I know you will understand if I go a bit quiet for a while....love to you all from my hearth to yours. Enjoy all the preparations, hug your loved ones and if you are grieving a loss too, I hope you also have the comfort of good friends and good memories.

Glad that you have family and friends surrounding you, though I suspect that even in the midst of their love and support, you will need your own quiet time and space to savour your deepest thoughts and wonderful memories of Barry as you go through this season. Tears, laughter, small smiles of remembrance, the aching sadness of loss are to be expected. Know that you are being lifted up by those of us who cannot be with you in person, but will be in spirit.

I will be thinking of you, Freda...and lighting candles for you and your Barry.

We understand if you go quiet,,,,your life is so different from last Christmas. I'm spending this season celebrating the miracle of God wanting to live among us as one of us and pondering the hopes/dreams/disappointments of life

'A Simple Christmas and a quiet one'. A world of memories behind these few words.

An 'in between' time. Where longing, sadness, pain and all that was lost when Barry passed away go hand in hand with the warmth of different, new experiences, building new memories on your own.
A letting go and a letting come.

There's so little we, I, standing on the edge of that in-between, can do. Just, please, know that you are -lightly- held in this web of caring you created here.

A simple quiet Christmas is good Freda. Not only because it leaves room for reconfiguration and the very necessary grief, but also because it makes space for a little bit of magic and unexpected joy… I hope there will be plenty of the latter.

May I take the liberty of adding a virtual hug to each of your advent calendar drawers so that you get an extra little wave of love from your blog friends each day? x

As others above have already put it so well, this needs to be a time for withdrawal and a drawing-in. It may seem harrowing and hard but it is actually normal and right.
There will be a time for renewal and looking forward. Things will seem brighter. But all this takes time and you have to give it that time.
I have had some friends in recent years who have suffered a loss and it has made me realise that the best help we can give is to walk beside the person left behind. Not necessarily physically. Maybe not talking or even observing but just being there.
I wish you joy when the moments are right with your family and for the moments that tug your heart, perhaps a gentle reminder of the poems of Pauline Prior-Pitt, who has such excellent words in these situations.

This is just what you have to do Freda. It's reassuring to know that you will be surrounded and supported by family and friends through this season of remembering what has been and imagining what is to come. I will be thinking of you. Thank you for all you have shared with us readers in 2016. You are a lovely lady.
