..to see different scenery, different faces, have different conversations, eat different food, wear different cloothes!

I realise how much I thrive on chnage and variety. It makes me feel alive, and feel ike myself.

My word for 2021 was Stretch (boy were we all stretched!) and I am considerng lighthearted, freedom, fun, chill, growth, forward....restore might be  good word. What do you think?

I am taking a bit of a blog break now, but want to thank you for reading and for commenting. Above all I want you all to have a HEALTHY 2022

..I wish you smiles and a little bit of silly!

Picture

This card put a big smile on my face as soon as I saw it (thank you H). Ever the questioner I thought Why?

I realised it's because it so unashamedly lighthearted.

Our hearts  have been so heavy for so long it seems to me. How could they be otherwise in a pandemic?

So, if only for a little while each day, and especially on Christmas day, I wish you lots of things to smile about and lightness of heart.

Happy Chritmas X

I am writing this on the 20th, but tomorrow is the shortest day and I like to light a candle for the solstice and this little one which turns the owls seems particularly appropriate.

I will be thinking of Lynn who is planning to be at Avebury.

Will you make a little celebration of it?

A satisfying task. I still have bulbs to plant too! Elemental, basic, simple. No need for government guidance or mandate, no online registering or mitigating protocols. I don't even need to wear a mask!

Whew.

While I have so little to say (imagine!)  you might like to browse my 10 year archive. I think that's what I will do.....

Yay! Did it.

Step three of my paper sorting  exercise was to put like with like, categorise the papers back into piles. Step four was to deal with each pile in turn. Take action/file/discard. It didn't take nearly as long as I thought it would.

I have a one drawer filing cabinet and the next task is to go through that one file at a time discarding as I go....Runnng a home is like running a small business.

I am really enjoying listening to Wintering by Katherine May, which is being read this week on BBC Radio 4 (find it on BBC Sounds if you can). Here is an excerpt..

Once we stop wishing it was summer, winter can be a glorious season when the world can take on a sparse beauty. It's a time for reflection and recuperation, for slow replenishment. It's a time for putting your house in order.

During the months of painitning for the exhibition, I got into the lazy habit of just putting the paperwork down in the study, out of sight. Little piles grew and grew, as they do when I am not looking, until there were four or five or more small stacks of papers needing attending to. What better task to tackle on a wet and windy Saturday afernoon?

Step one was to gather everything together in one place, so that I knew how much I was dealing with. Actully step one was getting into the right mindset and a short phonecall with my daughter notivated me to get ti done!

Step two was to  go through every single bit of paper to see what coud be discarded. For me this takkes a bit of discipline - I must only think can I throw this away or not? This was most satisfying as I reduced the pile by abut a qaurter - to the amount below. Progress.

As the fox says in Charlie Mackesey's wonderful book The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse

To be honest, I often feel  I haave nothing interesting to say. (To which the horse replies To be honest is always interesting.)

LIfe is very quiet of late. I am catching up with a backlog of papaerwork, have sold another painting, am thinking a lot about suspending judgement and wondering what on earth I will buy for Christmas presents this year...

What is happening with you?
