Simply asking....

Did it work for you?

Having a word for the year I mean.

Tonight I thought afresh about my idea of just finishing off all the shortbread and chocolates and starting to eat sensibly again tomorrow, and got up and put them in a tin on a high shelf. Now I have a treat for any visitors who come.

Simple.

Easier than I thought.

Thinking afresh might be easier than I thought!

I am loving your comments on your words. See here and here (especially the comments) for ideas on restoring, replenishing and reinventing for 2016. In the first few days of January anything seems possible, don't you think? Yay! We can do it!

I'll be honest...I forgot what word I'd chosen. I had to go back to your Dec 2014 posts to find out what it was....growth. That said, looking back over 2015, I've certainly grown in ways I couldn't have imagined what with placing my parents, dealing with their house & all that goes with that, learning a completely new way for my job to be done (& living to tell about it! lol!!) So I'll say, yes, I've certainly grown but only looking back can I see that.

I do wonder if subconsciously it influenced you - your acceptance that you had to grow....but maybe this is a bit fanciful? Glad you lived to tell the tale though Cathy!

Freda, what you say reminds me that any change is possible if we decide to be mindful. So you were talking about reviewing habits, and starting afresh, and maybe reviewing thoughts and ideas this year....yes to all that for me too!...last year was a write-off in terms of me following my word....however....i can do it this year if i use mindful breath. When a thougth arises, i can stop, breathe, feel its effects on my body, and then let the thought pass....change our thoughts, change our lives.

Awareness of what we are thinking is the key - then we can change it. I found myself thinking today 'Do these thoughts spark joy?' No, they were like the 'dirty snow' in May Sarton's poem and I shoved them off and thought some fresh ones!

It worked. Not all by itself mind you, it required maintenance like writing 'nourishment' at random days on my desk calender to remind me.
This morning I spent an hour creating a mindmap for 'adventure' as I felt in need of a way in. Who would have guessed my first way in is 'Into the Woods' in as many different ways as I can come up with....

I love mindmaps. They suit my visual memory (and helped me pass many an exam!) To The Woods Cath!

Lucky visitors - I would drop by to help you with the shortbread only it is a bit far from here! I am looking forward to your posts on afresh - I am sure you will add your creativity to each of them - you have made a great start - we are just trying to eat up the mound of chocolate profiteroles left in the fridge from a neighbourly get together last Saturday - will have to eat them up otherwise they will go off and I hate waste - what a dilema - maybe they will prove to be restorative!!

Sorry Viv, but even the thought of a profiterole....but I hope you can drop by again some day!

I'm afraid I too forgot my words although I did follow them unconsciously! Hopefully with 'a sense of wonder', I will do better this year! Sarah x

'A sense of wonder' for 2016. How beautiful that will be.

There's so much positivity around at the start of a new year - I love it!
I didn't have a word for 2015 but I did well with one the year before so I'm hopeful about 'courage' this year. It's feeling a bit heavy at the moment though and not nearly as much fun as other people's words!

Maybe if you pronounce it in French? Or in the voice of some character which makes you laugh?! You'll think of something...

the voice which...or some character who...I can get hung up on grammar sometimes

Thank you Freda, you've given me an idea!
