Sunshine and frost. A perfect day for a short walk.

Today's picks - holly and the first hazel catkin.

All the Christmassy things are put awy, but I still want winter table decorations and holly fits the bill.. a few red berries would have been nice but I never see any holly with berries here. We planted a female holly in Coronation Wood some years ago, but to no avail. Yet.

The words of the The Holly and The Ivy have been in my head all day, so perhaps a last glimpse of Christmas past with these spine tingling voices from King's can be my last Christmas flourish!

Heartening to see the catkins already - if winter comes, can spring be far behind? Thank you, Shelley.
Lovely table decoration with the holly, Freda.
On today's walk I noticed that there are very fat buds on a large magnolia tree; plus the profusion of mosses and flat lichens on stone walls and pavements around the village. They were all there yesterday, I just didn't see them.

I love the frosty rims on the dark leaves. We had the first dry frosty day today and it was wonderful seeing the white edges on field and garden . The first snowdrops are in flower and there are big fat buds on the Camellias. I think your catkins are more advanced than ours. I resorted to making a table arrangement with dried proteas ( from a bouquet) plus dried seed heads from alliums and cow-parsley collected in the garden and paddocks last autumn. Thank you for the

Camellias and magnolias to come. Lovely! Also nice to have decorations from your own garden. I am enjoying these winter days,
