Out with the old and in with the new in the garden as well as the wardrobe.

I replaced the tired old lavender with pieris Green Gift

Today felt like the start of the gardening year.

What a nice feeling. The sun on my back and my hands in the soil. Am dreaming of masses of wild flowers - pink campion and foxgloves..

Today has been our first proper day's gardening as well - warm and so pleasant! Lavender never does well for me here in West Wales, even in pots with good drainage - too much rain. I'm putting my hopes on bulbs in pots this year. Gardeners are optimistic folk, aren't we?

I'm glad you had a good gardening day too Linda. This lavender did surprisingly well (in almost pure gravel) for about five years. We are indeed optimists! I hope the bulbs do well.

Looks great. I’ve just read a great book about using mornings and watching seasons shift. It’s called Morning, how to make time by Allan Jenkins. A slim volume but completely inspiring. I think you’d love it.

Thank you for this. I've just looked it up online, and will be ordering it. I'm an early waker, always have been, but tend to stay in bed, and always have a slight feeling of missing out.

Never a morning person I am sure I have also missed out....

I've held on to some tired old lavender for far too long. Does Peoria do red leaves in Autumn? It looks lovely in that pot. Hoping that this is a good year for foxgloves as I saved all the babies from last year and spaced them out a bit. Pruned the wisteria yesterday. That was a good job ticked off.

The new leaves of pieris in late spring take on fiery colours. It is a little small for the pot as yet but the colour is good. I am collecting foxglove seedlings from my daughter's garden.

I don’t know how it came up with that new spelling for pieris!

I can just imagine how happy you were to get back to gardening. Good for you!

After 8" of snow last Wednesday (almost all gone now), I look forward to some actual springlike weather. Our temps have been below average for weeks. However, I did soil tests in various places around my yard and plan to go back to the garden nursery this week for ideas on plantings that might work based on those results. I would love to have masses of wildflowers. And, like you, I plan to get some new soil and plants to redo a number of containers.

You sound all ready to go as soon as the weather co-operates. Hope you don't have too long to wait!
