Simply put..all I want for Christmas is....

..a tbr shelf.

I didn't know what tbr stood for until quite recently. The term kept coming up over at Cornflower Books and when I twigged what it meant (to be read, as I expect you all know!) I really felt I was missing out on something good. I have always read every book as it comes in the door and rarely have one unread.

Here are some of the titles in my letter to Santa.

Findings by Kathleen Jamie, Christmas At Cold Comfort Farm, Rory Stewart's The Places In Between, Ishiguro's Nocturnes, The Snow Leopard, Venice For Lovers, Paris by Julian Green in both French and English to revive my rusty schoolgirl French, and How To Be Danish, The Collected Works of Bernard McLaverty....I'm just warming up to this and plan to add a few more. (The difficult bit will be making room on the shelf.)

There is an interesting post at Cornflower Books on the ntbr list (that's not-to-be-read list) which engendered lots of comments. See it here.

Do you have a tbr pile/shelf/collection?

And what do you want for Christmas?

Oh, and I have a TBR magazine stack, and what I want for Christmas is a ukulele(I think I'll be able to buy myself one. ;D ).

A ukulele sounds a fun present!

I didn't know that term either! I'm always behind on the acronyms and cool sayings, but I don't mind. I have been enjoying adding some new books to my Kindle lately so that now I'm rather excited at the little collection tbr that awaits me. How To Be Danish sounds interesting and fun! Currently I am reading Quiet by Susan Cain, about introverted and extroverted personality traits. I see myself in both. I wish you a wonderful christmas my friend. x (p.s. my fast metabolism, walking, a small breakfast & long time at the degustation all helped our feast day in London!)

I have a pile of about fifteen books waiting to be read - they look at me accusingly every day - and I have another half dozen on my Christmas list - I don't think I am going to live long enough to get through them all

Oh no - not accusing, more inviting? I'm seeing this as a big treat!

Virginia Woolf's Garden
The Angel of Charleston
Beatrix Potter's Gardening Life
Ammonites and Leaping Fish

I think it is time I read Montaigne. Not in French!
I also have a Persephone catalogue with ticks by quite a few titles on the tbr list.

I visited Persephone bookshop in autumn - lovely. I could easily make a wish list for there.

May Santa be good to you!
I'd forgotten about that 'NTBR' post, so thank you for reminding me; I'd also forgotten about the 'Book X' I mention there, but it's coming back to me now...

Among my TBR's is one you have too (Findings by Kathleen Jamie) and I am becoming very curious as I remember you mentioned Bernard McLaverty before, he must be very good as you have his Collected Works on your list for Santa. Although my TBR's don't fit on one shelf I've still requested more books...

MacLaverty's 'Grace Notes' is one of my favourites and I enjoyed 'Sightlines' by Kathleen Jamie so much I'm looking forward to 'Findings'. I hope you get all the books you want. I don't think I'll be going anywhere between Christmas and New Year with all this lovely reading to do!

I too rarely have a pile of books that I am waiting to read. i have recently bought a kindle to try and reduce my bookshelf! It's good to go back and revisit old favourites on it too.

I do like to reread my favourites - but it does make it harder to create space. One big advantage of a kindle I know, but something holdds me back from getting one......the tactile thing of a book is something I so enjoy.

Yes, I have a shelf for tbr books! Can't keep up these days…
I have asked for a little book of short stories and poems I noticed that is by a young Swiss author and poet (she takes part in poetry slam competitions) and that is written all or mostly in our dialect :)
