January just got brighter!

What are you doing to make your January brighter? (Apologies to southern hemisphere readers who are getting too much sun!)

Capturing rainbows, playing with garlands (50p Ikea and I think I should get safer battery-powered tea lights for this), moving paintings, swapping cushions around, flowers, candles, lights which are wintry but not Christmassy, or just getting out for a brisk walk, or eating this delicious wake-up-your-tastebuds salad.

With a new commitment to a big solo show, January just got busier too....

The salad looks perfect! I'm going to try it out tomorrow as I have the ingredients on hand.

Now is a good time for renewal and your photo of the rainbow behind the red gate provides loads of motivation.

Freda - the salad was a lovely accompaniment to rib-eye steak. It's very refreshing, and with the cumin there is a hint of heartiness there too. Perfect for a winter pick-me-up. Thanks for your suggestion.

A double rainbow! I've seen that happen just a couple times. Really pretty and so much nicer to look at than the snow that's coming down right now. Brrrr! It's cold!

Oh but I'm hoping for snow!

Congratulations on your upcoming solo show!

Gorgeous double rainbow. It looks like it's coming to earth just outside your gate!

January brighteners: local mandarin oranges (easy to eat and tons of vitamin C), walks through the park rain or shine, candles (I keep out all of my Christmas candles through January), a pot of soup simmering all afternoon, a new library book!

Thanks Karen! There are joys to be had in winter aren't there.

Beautiful!
Love that fox garland, never saw that when I was there or I might have been sorely tempted ;o lol
Definitely the time of year when I love to celebrate winter, as opposed to Christmas, had a great time pottering around as you describe, restoring order… and the sun was shining brightly, too!

January definitely finds me burning more candles than I am used to.
Even though the light is gaining a little bit every day I still experience it as very much part of the long dark. It has a big pull on me to turn and stay inside.

My hibernation instincts are very strong! But I enjoyed a blustery walk this afternoon. This part of the year can seem like a long haul.

Hi Freda,

beautiful photo!

It's Summer here in Australia, but I still like to make things bright. I'm on Summer break, so gradually deep cleaning the whole house and flinging the doors and windows wide open every day.

I've just had visitors so unable to work with Kondo's suggestions, but will get back with the program tomorrow. Somehow even cleaning out the inside of a cupboard makes the room feel brighter when you come in!

Summer seems so long ago! It's not just what you see with a room/house is it? It's also what you know! Stay with us won't you..

Beautiful, I don't suppose you found a pot of gold closeby?
