Do you buy yourself a Christmas gift?

I have just bought myself a subscription to Headspace, as headspace is something I feel I need this year.

Giving myself a gift each Christmas started one year when, although I had droppped many hints about what I would like, no-one had picked up on them and I did not get what I had been hoping for! A few days later it dawned on me that I could quite simply buy it for myself, without any fuss or even mentioning it to anyone.

I now buy myself something I really like every Christmas.

Whyever not?

Indeed; why ever not? I've done this for years. Started young when I was allowed to spend half of the money I was given for Christmas or birthday while half went into my saving account. Once I was in charge of my own cash I never saw reason to stop. It's a purchase without that, somewhat puritan, voice in the head saying "but shouldn't you be sensible?". It is a kind of 'permission to be frivolous' in a mild way that an obedient soul such as mine enjoys once in a while.

Yes, usually a book which I keep till Christmas, after all,we know just what we like. I do feel ungrateful sometimes in not totally appreciating some of my gifts from other people, very occasionally wondering if the person knows me at all, so my gift to myself is perfect.

Perhaps the only way to get the absolutely perfect gift? I like that you keep the book till Christmas.

Well I haven't until now so I think perhaps I should make amends ! Just have to decide what to buy , that'll give me something to ponder for a while !
