Simply..a summer feast....

We abandoned hte beach barbecue option because the weather forecast was so bad, but in fact we had a lovely sunny day with a warm breeze, so we had some of the meal indoors and some outdoors. Perfect.

I baked - Victoria sponge with strawberry jam..

I cooked ratatouille, the eggs were hard boiled to go with prawns in mayonnaise, lettuce and dill open sandwiches (I have been into open sandwiches since Copenhagen!)

A bowl of hot soapy water to wash up as I go.

Everyone brings a dish to share, and we drank Bellinis - I love family lunches. I also love sitting round a table together.

My favorite picture, even over all the luscious food, is the one of the sink with soapy water and dishes. Speaks of a good meal and love somehow. I used to entertain 20 - 25 people every weekend for years - casual get-togethers where everyone pitched in. My favorite tho was an evening that I ran late and miscalculated the time needed to prepare the meal I had planned. Everyone pitched in and I mainly was the Chef orchestrating my friends preparing the meal. It was such fun and camaraderie!

Your family gathering sounds delightful . Those photos made me feel so hungry ! Danish open sandwiches are miniature works of art . So glad the weather was kind to you after all .

It all looks so delicious, Freda. Arrangements for al fresco dining in Scotland do have to be flexible, don't they?
Somehow there is a different feeling to preparing food that will be shared with those you love, than when it is just for yourself.
We're looking forward to many of my partner's family coming to us next Sunday; hoping it may be dry, but contingency plans are developing nicely.
