Have you read Dr Hannah Ritchie's recent book Not The End Of The World? I'd love to know what you think of it. A dara scientist, she seems to have taken up the baton of the late and great Hans Rosling. (I first posted this more than 10 years ago.)

As with Hans Rosling there are lots of YouTube interviews, TED Talks and videos of Dr Ritchie and her message that far from being the last generation of humans on the planet we could be the first generation to create a sustainable world.

Two facsimile editions bought at Sissinghurst many years ago. Re-reading these will help me fall in love with gatdening again I am sure.

I've just re-watched and found it inspiring and galvanising.

Aah! I have a copy of In Your Garden on the hall table. Perhaps that's why it looked familiar 😆. It will be added to the pile of books to be read again.
My decision that spring starts on Friday is a bit more pedestrian in that Friday is the 1st of March and I class December, January and February as winter then March, April and May as spring and so on. You may be right though , Freda, and one's state of mind has a lot to do with it.
Thank you for writing about Hannah Ritchie and I look forward to listening to her. Hans Rosling was a beam of light in the otherwise gloomy world so any reassurance that we are not all going to hell in a hand basket is much appreciated.

This is a lovely, positive post. Thank you. I was also encouraged yesterday to read that in a survey of over four thousand teenagers, the job they wanted to do most was be a doctor working for the NHS. In second place came engineer, in third being a teacher. It gives me hope!

I love your gardening books . When I was downsizing our vast collection of books , it was the garden related ones that I found hardest to part with and so kept most of them !
