Simply..a touch of the blues....

Yes, the January blues. Not the best kind.

I thought I'd try to keep them at bay with a look at some May blues -

and some September blues.

A brisk walk, a phone call to a friend, a nice meal - what works for you if or when you get a touch of the January blues?

Maybe I need to think afresh about how I do Januaries? Hmmm.

This is of course aimed at my northern hemisphere readers...it is so hard to imagine that some of you are basking in bright sunlight! Do remind us what it is like!

I just work the plan in January, do tasks in front of me. February is the bane of my existence - i am so over the weather and the whole is what? 75-80 days long?

You've just made it clear what it is about January Gail - it's BORING!

It is strange, I don't mind the long dark of January. I love to draw the curtains as soon as it is getting dark, lighting a candle, enjoying the lamplight and the warmth. A beautiful voice telling a story, nourishing to read. It helps knowing we are gaining light little by little every day.
Even after having made January more fun for myself, or should I say more adventurous, it is nature's quietness, stillness that I find hard. The walk, even in today's very cold wind, helps as does a small pot with daffodils.

I think I am impatient! I have liked those things too, till now, but somehow I am ready to move on..sunshine is forecast though it is much colder. I'm glad you're liking January.

It's the long bouts of low pressure that get to me, giving me headaches that go on for days on end. And low light levels. I'm not really a high-summer type of person, but it is easier to be cheerful in nice dry, bright weather!

I tried to leave a comment here days ago, but my iPad seemed to swallow it! But it still holds - my only cure for January is to try to go out for a walk every day, whatever the weather; the endorphins really do help and it's like beating your head against a wall - it's lovely when you stop! And I've gone back to swimming twice a week: useful exercise when the weather restricts the walks to a couple of miles in the gathering gloom. That brings the relief of noting that the afternoons are lengthening slowly - we were walking in snowy Glen Massan yesterday and didn't reach the car till 5pm. We could still see enough to walk...

I have been doing this too (but short little walks!) It felt for a while that even on a dry day by the time I got all togged up it would be raining! Walking in the rain is OK once you have accepted it but Glen Massan in the snow would be much much nicer Christine.
