Simply..all in the planning....

Well, maybe not all, but I do love making plans and having projects. It's another thing which makes me feel alive.

I like the research, the decision making, the anticipation and finally (though they don't always come to fruition) the execution.

I currently have garden plans, fitness plans, travel plans and  a wardrobe update plan is slowly taking shape....

Even a plan for the morning or the next hour helps shape my time and my thoughts, and gives me a sense of purpose.

When I go to the city I am doing diligent research to find a substitute for my favourite restaurant which has closed down.  Carluccio's was ideal for me when I was travelling. positioned between the bus station and the railway station, on a level, roomy and table service - all helpful  when you have luggage, the food was good with regular small changes to the menu to keep it interesting, the staff were always friendly (I wonder if they all found new jobs) and the street was in view so you could watch the world go by. They also sold a good range of italian foods which made great gifts if I was going to stay with someone. And they never made me feel hurried. Perfect in other words!

So far, and several mediocre and one very bad meal later, I have not found a good alternative.

Zizzi was good yesterday (belated Mother's Day meal with my daughter - best salted caramel ice cream!) but this branch is out of the centre of the city in Ashton Lane in the West End.

If you have any recommendations I'd be glad to hear of them....

So, that plans do you have that are making you feel alive?

And if you haven't got any can you make one?

Even a little one?

Oh dear! I hate when that happens..we lose a favorite spot that seems irreplaceable! I had a look at your photos and saw how unsuitable that laneway to zizi’s would be for a suitcasse with wheels.
I have some dietary problems just now and there is one restaurant where i can get freshly made food that suits me perfectly. They know me now! And they can make the food exactly as i need it. I can relax, eat a meal out and know that i will not get sick afterwards. That is a treat...so i can sympathize with you Freda...but here’s to happy plans and feeling organized! I am planning our annual trek to our canadian summer cottage. Looking forward to it too! We’re turning it into a leisurely expedition and will see friends and art galleries on the way.

I'm glad you have found somewhere to eat out now and then - it is a treat isn't it. And I can't believe it is that time of year again already - it's as if you are only just back from the cottage!

Maybe it sounds horrible and dull but some time ago I decided to let go of making new plans.

I have dedicated this year to revisiting plans I lost interest in, projects parked on a sidetrack, books I first absolutely wanted to read but then forgot, intentions that withered away.

It is another way of clearing and it is unexpectedly liberating.

That is most interesting Cath - did you always manage to re-kindle your interest?

For some time already, after an enthousiastic start, the energy seeps out of new plans and projects very quickly. That is so disappointing that I find it necessary to try to analyse the process, to see if I can find why this happens. I am not aiming to re-kindle a plan or project, more trying to go deeper and make a distinction between the 'what' and the 'how'. What I am learning is that the phase of life I am in might very well require a different kind of plan or project.

Commiserations on a favourite haunt closing as it is a real loss. Have you tried Ask Italian beside the bus station? I meet a group of friends there for lunch and it is roomy, you can watch the world go by and the staff have always been friendly with no pressure to move on. The food might be one of your mediocre restaurants though as it can be hit or miss though we have never sent anything back.
Many hours are spent planning but not so much time in the execution. Maybe they are better classed as dreams.

I think they had to close 30 restaurants as they were struggling - I have never been to one. I did go to Zizzi's a couple of times in Shrewsbury, but it seems that the veggie is nearly all Risotto all the time.
I always make plans at the beginning of the month - I call them my intentions as it is what I intend to do if time allows, but so often it doesn't. I have a party to plan at the moment for Easter Sunday so am busy thinking about getting the house and garden presentable.

Carluccio's in Glasgow always seemed pretty busy and their menu always quite interesting too. I am sure setting intentions is a very good idea - plans are much more likely to be carried out.and I know your Easter Sunday party will be a great success!

Its too bad that such a good restaurant (best location and food) has closed down. So hard to operate a small business these days and restaurants are particularly difficult because of the high overhead costs with perishable foods, labor, etc.

I do daily plans that I usually write in my journal the night before or first thing in the morning and then check off tasks as I complete them. Mostly short term tasks, but sometimes I have other things such as advanced train or holiday reservations that only open up at certain periods before a trip, or longer term projects that need to be broken down into smaller tasks to become more manageable. I log longer term projects in a monthly plan section and then move the tasks to the appropriate day as they occur. So, I'm definitely a planner, though not so uptight that I get frustrated if they don't work out. In those situations, I usually put an arrow (>) next to them that means they get moved to the next day or month. Travel planning is the one that make me happiest. Heading to Europe for a couple of weeks in the fall.

You have to be a good planner to travel as extensivley as I know you do Mary. Looking forward to hearing more about the Europe plans.
I don;t always do daily plans but do get a greater sense of satisfaction when I do - unless we get an unexpectedly good warm day and then I am happy to abandon all planning and relax in the garden!
