Lovely photo Freda . Like you , I find beauty sustains me but I also agree with Gail , that my faith in God is the underlying strength in my life.

We so need both strength and resilience.

I thought about the phrase 'times of loss and sorrow', and think that all the time, is a time of loss and sorrow for me, as well as a time of gain and joy.
For me, it's all there all the time.

In terms of being sustained when it feels intolerable, I think that for me, it's knowing that this is just part of living life as a human.
Knowing that I'm not alone, helps: hearing others' experience of this e.g friends, radio programmes, novels, autobiographies.
Also, knowing that there is a 'beyond time': that life and other experiences of it, will be ahead, for however short or long time that may be. And, some of those experiences may be wonderful, or at the very least, interesting.

The thoughtful sharing that goes on here, helps me know that I am not alone, and that is so sustaining.

I find there are times when one is more extreme than the other. Although every day probably has a little of both.

Your picture: a thing of beauty and a comradely gift. At the same time, I feel it's another of your small acts of courage.

Sorry, above doesn't answer your question, it was more about your picture.

Like yourself, Freda, beauty sustains me, a rainbow, a newly opened flower, children's laughter. Calm acceptance that death is a part of life (although I've only felt this as I've got older) and that although 'the song is ended, the memory lingers on'.

There is acceptance, which may become calm, bu oh how I will miss him. I have known him most of my life.
