In many ways it is an old fashioned exhibition - photographs and words, some original film and artifacts - but such stunning photographs and such moving words..

Endurance was the word.

more endurance than I have. so good no one was waiting for me to do the exploring! I thought it was almost barbaric that it was only 55 degrees in the sanctuary this morning. they haven't turned on the heat yet!

Years ago I had a cassette tape of the story - I remember crying at the end. So brave.

I got a shiver down my back when I got to the 'rescue'' part of the story, even though I knew what had happened...

Freda..this is stunning. i’ve read avidly about shackleton over the years, including the gripping book: endurance. Am dismayed to find that the exhibit that astonished you was in detroit, michigan last year...:-(( i missed it... but how wonderful for all of you in the edinburgh area. Thank you for telling us about this.

Can only imagine what kind of courage (craziness:)) it took to be part of this mission. Considering the difficulty of the conditions and the kind of photographic equipment available at the time, Hurley''s photography is all the more remarkable.
