Simply..at a loss....

..without my phone! Have you felt this too?

I forgot to take my phone to the city. Who knew I was so dependent on it? When the person I was meeting didn't show up, when I needed to check if the ferry was running (strong winds forecast and a thirty mile trip to find out), when I needed to fix a time for a lift home, when I wanted to photograph the baby llamas at the University of Glasgow....the list goes on!

How did we live without mobile phones??

It does now feel like a missing limb although I do try to leave it at home on purpose sometimes. For example if going to the supermarket I reason that any call can wait until I get home, and even if someone wanted to add something late to the list - too bad! But I do remember pre-mobiles - waiting over two hours at a shopping centre for someone who was supposed to rendezvous with us after she'd done her own shopping. It was deeply frustrating. I suppose she might not have answered her mobile or had no signal, but we would have left a message and told her we were going home!
I think we must have had to be more organised. We'd do less 'on the fly', we'd have a map and timetable with us and have lower expectations of what we could achieve. I daresay we were more often inconvenienced too. I often think about this. My camera and checking facilities are the things I would miss most without a phone on a longer trip.

I do agree with the lower expectations of what we could achieve - life was slower I am sure.

Yes, We have become dependent. I remember a trip to the UK some years ago where I did not have my mobile. I was supposed to get a train to a very small station where my son would pick me up. However, when changing trains in Cambridge with only minutes to spare, I ended up on the wrong train. A very nice young man on the train loaned me his mobile to call my son...who had his mobile turned OFF. It was Mothering Sunday and the message I left him was not motherly. Needless to say, I stood outside the remote train station for hours before he finally showed up. I have not forgotten my mobile since that event.

I'm most disappointed not to see the baby llamas! What are they studying I wonder? Tibetan Buddhism? :-)

I think they may have been alpacas - something to do with pet therapy!

Still smartphone-free in 2018! but for a tiny £10 mobile, which I take on trips on public transport (I absolutely concur re the ferry) or travelling a long distance to meet someone.
Sometimes I find that if I've photographed during a day out (with my camera), those images obliterate the many others in my memory.

no smart phone for me...just a go-phone I carry for emergencies. That must make me a luddite...but works for me.

I think the Luddites went about destroying things - you're not doing that to people's phones are you Cathy? :-)

Oh my gosh!!!! I would be at a loss too, Freda...i had to pause for a moment to think how WOULD I feel?
Loss of control came to mind....we are sure dependent on our devices, aren’t we?

Being able to enlarge things on the screen is very useful to me in poor light, and living in a village with no street lights the torch is very useful when I get off the bus at night.

And I put up a shelf in the kitchen using a spirit level app when I'd broken the real thing!

Well are really favorite app that has been very useful to me for 2 years is scanner pro.
You can scan a document or photograph and then email it directly from the app...this was so handy when we had a lot of documents to sign and forward in settling my MIL’s estate and did not have access to a fax of scanner..
