Simply..bees buzz....

One of my plans for my summer (this post) is to pay more attention to the wildlife in my garden.  A sound like an engine running, quietly, drew me to this rowan tree, sorbus sargentiana, in the front garden.

It is flowering like never before and every single cluster of flowers seems to have at least one bee on it! That must be hundreds and hundreds of bees.

Mesmerising!

And heartening.

That must be a wonderful experience, Freda, and cheering news in the face of so much climatic doom. I have read that gardens are playing an increasing role in supporting the numbers of bees. Are they all the same type of bee or does the tree nectar attract different species? I am, however, not feeling quite so pleased about whatever buzzing thing that has decided to live in the ventilator brick into my bedroom.

I know so little about bees Sheena. i must learn more. I do know what you mean about those that nest in the house....what to do?

Given the dire news about the bee population, that is good news. Maybe Lotta sent her hood 'friend' up your way, too. :)

we're finally coming to the end of the 17 year cicada cycle & it can't end soon enough. there are millions of them & together they sound like a UFO hovering overhead....not that I've ever actually heard a UFO hovering overhead. when just 1 gets stuck on the wall behind me, it sounds like an engine just waiting to fail. so annoying! I'll be glad when all I hear are the birds, the bees...even the neighbor's lawnmower won't bother me (for awhile, anyway)

I can see you might not be finding it funny Cathy, but you had me laughing out loud!

At this time of year in eastern ontario, the snapping turtles are laying their eggs. They find the sandy, soft verges of the back roads to be the perfect place to dig, but one has to watch for them, while driving! Yesterday we passed 3 very large females, laying..not all together!...but on our return trip...the nests had been dug up,,,probably a porcupine..so if you do see a snapping turtle..you know that this one one of very few who made it to adulthood! Their chance for a life is very precarious...robins are happy today and we have a black snake who is kindly keeping the mice population down!

Oh! And the other morning a rare treat...5 otters swam by so close that i could see the silvery fish in their mouths, that they were happily swallowing whole! No munching for them..:-)
