Simply..by no stretch of the imagination....

..is s t r e t c h an exciting word for 2021, but I think it is the one!

The latter half of 2020 in particular was a very passive time for me, and I need to get moving again. But I cant just jump in to where I was before the pandemic.

I will ease myself into 2021 rather as a cat eases itself into life after a sleep with a full top to tail stretch A luxurious, enjoyable streatch. I will stretch myself physically and mentally. I will stretch a point now and then to accomodate others' opinions. The word has an element of better in it, and I can stretch just a tiny bit or to the full length of my reach as I choose.

I won't stretch the truth though, and I do not want to stretch my waistband any further ....

Have you decided on your word?

I think I’m definitely going with reimagine. It still feels huge but I’ve realised I can cherry pick; for example, I want to reimagine parts of my garden.

I’m not sure whether it applies better to things rather than feelings or emotions. But it does feel like a challenge, which is what I think I need at the moment. So I’m going to bend my mind to reimagining the new UK lockdown in a positive way, for starters. Nothing like diving in at the deep end....
And then I certainly need to reimagine my waistline too, Freda.

That’s a very creative word you have chosen Damsonlily. In terms of feelings I think it might be called ‘reframing’. I am sure it will be a fascinating challenge!

Clearly, I need a different word - as my first thought was 'doing a stretch' as in prison. Far too close to present reality to be inspiring!

Oh dear! I look forward to finding out what you do choose Mary, if you do that is..

Stretching as a bit can go a long way, both physically and mentally, going just a tiny bit out of our comfort zone but controlling the intensity of the stretch. I like it!
For 2021, I'm going with "amor fati", hoping it will help me navigate all the uncertainty going on in the world and on my own life, finding a way to love it as it is.

That’s a good point about comfort zones Cristiana, and I love your choice as a way to confront the uncertainty. That so original. x

Hi Freda,
I love your blog. You are an inspiration. Your resilience is amazing and it is the word I think of when I read what you have written.
I have two words for this year and they are ‘Easy Peasy’. I will try my very best to apply these words to every choice I have to make. I think it will really simplify everything for me and rule out the massive overthinking I normally do.
Regards,
Sharon.

Thank you for your kind words Sharon. Easy Peasy is a brilliant way to lighten up! I will use it too and think of you when I do.

I must remember Sharon's words when I am feeling overwhelmed. I haven't finalised my choice of word yet. Perhaps I am overthinking ...
