Thinking is the hardest work. That's why so few people do it.

Agree?

Disagree?

:-)

Maybe it depends on your age. At my age, "doing" some things is almost as hard as thinking. ;)

No, i think it is much harder to try “no thinking”!....for some people their thoughts exhaust them..and for others...they are exhausted by the people they know who insist on voicing every single random thought that passes thru their head! Hahaha
This might go nicely with your post yesterday..non-action, non-thinking.

There's a book called Women Who Think Too Much. Quite good I thought.

One windy day two monks were arguing about a flapping banner.
The first said:"I say the banner is moving, not the wind".
The second said: "I say the wind is moving, not the banner."
A third monk passed by and said: "the wind is not moving. The banner is not moving. Your minds are moving."
(Zen parable)

I'm not sure why this came into my (moving) mind when reading your words this morning. Not even sure I could explain it, as it is like a koan to me.. and decided to share it anyway...

Hmmm. This is a tricky one (and I love the comments so far.)

Thinking is necessary, surely? A lack of thinking can lead us into making decisions that we later regret. The UK referendum re. exiting the EU is a current example, I think (but don’t want to get political here.)
But over-thinking can result in delay and cause us to completely grind to a halt, as we weigh every option. We may never reach a decision about something.
When we decided to buy our new house recently, we had a check list of things we wanted; near a motorway, a train station nearby, a south facing back garden, etc. But in the end, we just fell in love with this particular house. Others ticked the same boxes but this one had the Wow factor.
No thinking required! Just a gut reaction. Simples!

Do we sometimes do the hard work of thinking only to throw it aside and go by gut feeling? And is gut feeling ever wrong? Is it just another kind of thinking? Sitting thinking is my favourite occupation, so I like to call it 'work' !

Do we think? Or do thoughts happen...? :-)

That reminds me of Do we breathe, or are we being breathed? More questions than answers I think!
