Simply..day one....

Thank you for your encouragement for my health week at home efforts! The main thing I realised today was how important company is.

I managed dry skin brushing, morning pages, Three fresh juices and one soup, but only 5,665 steps for which I had to take the bus into town where there were pavements cleared of snow and ice which I could walk on. I had the odd pang for a nice cup of coffee and a slight headache some of the time - probably withdrawal from coffee. But so far so good. Not all easy but not hard either....

Perhaps if you want a tiny try at a health retreat you could substitute fresh green juice, bought or homemade, for  breakfast or lunch for a few days and see how it feels?

Icy fingers over the porch today. Tonight I went and stood out there for a bit, stargazing and listening to some very screechy owls quite close in the forest. Another very hard frost.

The steps were bolstered by a trip into town to buy wool but the journey was a bit grim in the cold and dank weather and may have undermined health rather than bolstered it due to all the coughing people on trains.
On the plus side I tried the dry skin brushing and made a turmeric latte.
May have to try giving up my one cup of coffee per day as last night was very wakeful. I have ordered a juicing box from my usual veg box scheme people so may do better after that arrives on Thursday.

I often take a packet of mildly antiseptic cough sweets when I'm on buses and trains..and I think the skin brushing is probably better than any lotion - feels great! Roll on Thursday.

I would say almost 6k steps under those icy conditions was excellent.

Thick snow falling today! So beautiful but set to thaw later. I was quite pleased with yesterday's effort though it was a rather boring walk up and down the small main street of the town (the side streets were very icy!)

Extra member of support team reporting for duty! It sounds like you've made a great start Freda. Would the beach be any good for walking in the snow? I'm wondering too how many steps sledging would tot up!

Thanks for coming Lotta! I'm afraid it is not 'friendly' snow, We had fluffy snow which froze on top like an ice rink, then more fluffy stuff so you can't even make snowballs as they have shards of ice in them and when you try to walk on it you sink in with loud cracking noises and each step radiates cracks for about a foot (!) around..think astronauts on the moon! However it is thawing as I write and I will make up my steps the rest of the week. I have loved looking at it and photographing it. Have you had it too?

Yes there was some overnight last night, but not proper snowman snow... Not as icy as yours though. Slushy as I slid across the lawn to get the logs, but I haven't ventured further than that as I'm in major decluttering and furniture rearranging mode! That must count as steps surely?!

You are very brave walking out in that weather! And such a source of inspiration ... I have just gone and ordered myself a juicer after reading your post!

Oh I hope you love it as much as I do. I find just swapping juice for a meal now and then helps me keep my weight where I want it and it gives me good energy too.

Well, it sounds like you have got it! The whole purpose, i believe, of retreating, is to pause, listen deeply and notice...you are noticing desire for your usual treats, eg coffee..and how it is affecting you to not have it. You are noticing the effect of more or less movement..and the haunting beauty of a screech owl..:-)

i notice how often I eat or drink not because I am hungry or thirsty but because it is just a nice thing to do - especially with someone else. Food is so much more than fuel!
