Salmon cooked with butter and lemon, served on spinach with strawberries in balsamic vinegar, basil and pepper and a tiny bit of sugar. An unusual combination I really enjoyed.

I wondered what made you put that combination together, then I scrolled down to see the book. But that still leaves the question, what made them think of that? That's what I wonder when I see 'weird' combinations, like chili powder in chocolate or barbecue sauce with grape jelly & Vienna weiners as an appetizer.

I've no idea who thought it up - but it did taste good!

Good to hear that foods you like, and in combination, may not only taste good but, hopefully, help with the macular degeneration, Win. Win.

I love the entire combination, freda..and the composition of the photo as well. I admire you for creating a beautiful presentation, even if “only for yourself”. I probably would not do that..but you are completely right to do so!

I reckon that our food intake is one of the most powerful tools we have in life. Plus, if it's eye-pleasing and delicious... Bon appetit!

I really believe in food/nutrition for health; we have seen it ourselves with low carb-high fat and my husband's health!
My mother combined blueberries with salmon very satisfactorily not too long ago, and I've seen strawberries and kiwi with chicken before, but not with salmon. I suppose the strong flavour of salmon and sweet acidity of the fruit would be good together...

I believe more and more in 'we are what we eat' and will try blueberries next time!

Looks great! You just need a coulis and a drizzle of something and you could open a restaurant Freda! Have also been making pink food today - beetroot and ginger hummus... yum.

Will never open a restaurant Lotta - all that work and gone in minutes?
Hummus sounds good.

Hello Freda,

that plate looks really good! Wonderful that you have found a way to be pro-active with your eye health.

I have just finished listening to an interview with Dr Christiane Northrup about her book Goddesses Never Age: The Secret Prescription for Radiance, Vitality and Wellbeing. It was an eye-opening interview for sure where she talked about studies where people were able to improve their sight, hearing, blood pressure etc...on a ten day program that involved living like they did when they were younger (eg watching films and listening to music from the 50s when they were young). Participants were also photographed at the beginning and end of the program and came out looking 10 years younger.

Although Christiane does have a big focus on nutrition in her books she is also very interested in the way we are socially conditioned to age and become sick. So a big part of her focus is on creating a positive mind set and lifestyle. She is all for women actually scheduling in some joy each day to prevent and reverse disease.

I think you and many of your readers would find her book an interesting read. When I turned 50 I received an unsolicited bowel cancer test kit in the post - followed shortly thereafter by an invitation for a free breast scan. My response was, no thanks! Talk about creating an expectation for disease to occur. Christiane is an obstetrician/gynecologist and does not recommend routine breast scans. She goes into detail about this in an interview with Dr Mercola you can find on youtube.

I hope to keep growing stronger, smarter and more active as I age, and not just go into a decline as we are programmed to do. Sorry for the long ramble but I imagine many of the women who read and comment here might feel the same.

I will certainly check out Madeleine's links. However, I have to say that I will be eternally grateful that my Grade 2 breast cancer was picked up (before it got a chance to go walkabout) thanks to routine screening. I also feel incredibly fortunate to live in France where my treatment was covered 100% by the public health service.

We are lucky to have the health services we have, and life-saving checks.
