Simply..feeding time....

Today was sunny and warm - gorgeous, and I spent a delightful half hour lying in the hammock watching a little family of goldfinches feeding just a few feet away from me. There were four fluttering babies and one adult and I noticed the adult fed for quite a time on the linseeds then seemed to regurgitate them to the noisy youngsters which all mobbed it until it flew off to get some peace, only to fly back again a minute later. What a demanding family,

Curious, I googled 'goldfinch feeding young' and up came this excellent little three minute video.

Tonight I watched the fantastic BBC programme Spitfire Women - it is on for a further 25 days on iPlayer.

What a generation that was!

Clipped back some of my Campanula this morning and all of the Achillea hoping to invite them to a second bloom, but left enough flowers for the bee, I like to think it is the same one, visiting every day, as it is always only one. Such an industrious little being. It has its home on top of our apartment building where our neighbours keep a hive.

Watching nature, even one bee, is good for the soul I think!

You always find wonderful things to share with us! The only young birds I have seen recently are baby seagulls and some how they just aren't so lovely as those goldfinches! Sarah x

I seem to strike lucky quite often Sarah. You know a group of goldfinches is called a 'charm'? Very appropriate. I wonder what a group of seagulls is called. A gang maybe?

Several times last week we watched a father cardinal feed a fledgling sunflower seeds. That's the first time we've ever seen anything like that. As soon as the father got even close to the
fledgling, its mouth was open & waiting. We were fascinated.

Now I'm off to search for Spitfire Women.
