Simply..fifteen minutes....

I think it was Fly Lady who said you can do anything for fifteen minutes.

Gardening in the rain can be quite pleasant.

I am aiming to garden for fifteen minutes a day whatever the weather is doing in the hope that by spring it will be sorted!

Here I am preparing the ground for some tulips..

Better late than never with the half-hardy annual Thunbergia alata, Black Eyed Susan. It was meant to flower with geranium Rozanne which is in the same pot, but long over.

Lovely though.

I have one more border to tackle which is still full of flowering Cosmos, then I am finished. Planted the last of my tulips yesterday. But in the colder weather 15 minutes sounds about right - there is always something to do.

Good morning Elaine.. I have only just kept up this year and hope this strategy will give me a head start in spring. I am feeling pleased to have the ground ready for the tulips before they arrive! Well done to be finished, though as you say there is always something to do (which is probably why we love it....)

Freda...i love the idea of this method...a mere 15 minutes a day. One would think that i COULD do anything for only 15 minutes..unfortunately for me, my word from last year rears its ugly head: discipline....it seems to be entirely missing...i had it here somewhere...first i would have to discipline myself to begin my 15 minutes....good on YOU...you are one inspiring lady for sure.

If it wasn't Fly Lady, it was my mother. She always said to just work at something I didn't want to do for 15 min...if at the end of that time I wanted to quit, I could...or I could be really into what I was doing & continue on. Yes, it takes discipline & I admit I don't always even start that 15 min period, but at least I think about it. Does that count?

What a wise woman! It is the allowing yourself to stop that helps you get started I find...(and I have been known to try just 10 or even 5 - anything which gets me going.)

There was a nice variation of this on the radio the other day: you can do anything in a month. Examples given - write a novel, revise an A level syllabus, make serious progress in a foreign language, drop a dress size, train a dog... very comforting.

Oh I like this kind of thing!

The fifteen minutes practice is, I think a way, I could maybe tackle my silently shouting Kondo task: photographs.

Lots and lots of old family photographs from the nineteenth century onwards. Digital and prints. So many decisions to make if I don't throw them all away or pass them through the shredder.

I kept the task for cold winter days, and it is already getting colder..
I think I much rather plant tulips or daffodils.

"much rather"? that sounds weird. It resonates in my mind and all of a sudden English becomes a totally foreign language again. Such a humbling experience.

This would be such a good approach to what sounds like the scale of task which an organisation would employ somebody especially for! At least you will be progressing (instead of fretting?)

It is a great approach. Get one plant a day in the ground is my current goal. Nine left.. And then some little ones but we won't count those :)

Goals help I find, and like you I keep them simple! Your garden is looking fabulous Jessica.

That's a great idea, our garden needs lots of time spent on it at the moment. I should try this although maybe I will start tomorrow, we have heavy rain here at the moment! Sarah x
