Simply..following my nose....

..or more poetically, my heart.

In her charming book My Heart Wanders Pia Jane Bijkerk asks What would happen if one day you decided to follow your heart?

My Artist Date was a day in the city, wandering and wondering my way along Glasgow's West End. Following a whim to look in some shops I'd not even noticed before, browsing the bookshops, escaping the rain by having a leisurely lunch at Kember and Jones, fantasising about furniture and decorations I wouldn't usually consider, ditto clothes. I found the perfect birthday card for my daughter and some Christmas cards i love, stocked up on a shampoo I like which is about to  be discontinued, and had a gentle meandering time.

Delightful.

I loved their window.
There's a case to be made for letting go of being efficient for a time, of being goal-driven and focussed and organised - just following your instincts and giving yourself a break from yourself for a few hours.

Simply live. Letting your heart wander...

I wholeheartedly agree, Freda.
Similarly to you, I set myself many projects.
Sometimes, I abandon them temporarily, and find it so nourishing just to wander and see.
At risk of breaching copyright (I'm sure ' he won't mind), I'm attaching the lyrics of Mike Scott & The Waterboys song 'In Search of a Rose':

Where will I wander and wonder
Nobody knows
But wherever I'm a-going I'll go
In search of a rose
Whatever the will of the weather
And whether it shines or snows
Wherever I'm a-going I'll go
In search of a rose
I don't know where it's found
but I don't mind
As long as the world spins around
I'll take my time
I'll savour the softness of summer
I'll wrap up when winter blows
And wherever I'm going I'll go
In search of a rose

Once I got into the right mind set....it just got better.

Really, really relaxing I find a most difficult thing to do. Reading about your wander it feels like what I imagine really relaxing to be.

For me it's about giving myself permission...

Like the sentiments of the song, Susan.. Kember and Jones reminds me of the urban-style bakery/eatery Paillard in Quebec. I have a white paper serviette with Paillard written in red on it in a bowl on my dresser, glance at it daily, a reminder of a place I once wandered/wondered into.

Thank you, Rosemary. I find a lot of wisdom in Mike Scott's lyrics.

That window is wonderful! Someone must have had fun designing/doing that. And YES to following our hearts!

One of the staff, an art school graduate, did it. I'm wondering if I could do somthing similar on the front door window....

Go for it! And the greenhouse too! I remember last year you were wondering what to do with the greenhouse in winter... it could be a work of art!

Yes to pleasing ourselves and not worrying! I recently made lobster tails for the first time for dinner....and i am 66! Why on earth have i waited this long to make lobster? I shall make it monthly now...why not? If i am thrifty, our kids are liable to take a look at the money they’ve been left and then THEY will be eating lobster monthly! Hahaha what if we simply did what we wanted every day? And by the way..that window treatment is simply gorgeous!

I am reminded of my word 'supposing'. As in 'supposing it's ok to.....'

It usually is ok. Enjoy your lobster!
