Are there any smells you hate?
I hate the smell of fusty old books - I've had to walk out of second hand bookstores at times.
I'm not overly fond of wet dog either.
Or bad drains, or chamomile.
It was fun reading about your favourite smells.

Moth balls! And there is a sickly sweet smell that i associate with closed up, uncared for houses....i suppose it is dust...and you are so right about bad drains!

Silage. It makes me feel pretty rough. Perfect for a country girl eh?

I don't like the smell of stale bread on store shelves.

I love 'country' smells, having spent long parts of my childhood on farms, but I'm with you on chamomile - how on earth can people drink it? For some reason I can't stand the smell of boiled eggs in the morning, although they never bother me if I'm doing them for salad later in the day.

Very much with you on fusty old books, some kinds of fresh fish make me nauseous, not fond of artificial air conditioners either.

Ick...wet wool, the great unwashed, cigarettes, mold and mildew, ultra strong, cloying perfumes, candles or potpourri.

Popcorn in cinema foyers make me feel suffocated, nam pla and cigarettes. Especially when you have to run the gauntlet of them outside stations and pubs. There was a perfume called Poison which I hated too. My boss used to wear it and it preceded her down corridors.

I lost my sense of smell many years ago but can still clearly remember much loved aromas: grapefruit, fresh coffee, proper smoked bacon, clean baby, a lovely rose I once had; Abraham Derby. Interestingly I can't remember all those smells that I know I disliked. Except one. The water in which Sweet William flowers had festered for rather too long. Oh the joys of being primary school flower monitor! I trust that life's other joyful memories are as readily retained and the unwanted ones simply fade

Can't handle fusty books myself, stale cigarettes, cigar smoke (fresh or otherwise) or methylated spirit.

I was brought up in India. When travelling long distances by road we dreaded getting stuck behind a lorry carrying jackfruit,or Bombay duck (actually a fish!), both of which smelt dreadful.
