Simply..headspace....

I have found my word for 2017, which is supposing, to be really helpful on lots of occasions. Over the last few days it has given me headspace which I really needed.

I can get a bit anxious about financial matters at times but with a lot of filing to do I told myself Supposing I just filed it without engaging with each piece of paper?  (eg thinking I need to query this/re-negotiate this/get a better deal on that/shouldn't have left this for so long/wish I hadn't gone for that....) I also said Supposing I just did 15 minutes at a time? My supposing question is usually followed by Whyever not? and I've now spent several hours quite contentedly dealing with a lot of piles of paperwork and thinned down the bulging filing cabinet considerably without getting stressed!

Decluttering my brain before Christmas is upon it!

Can you give yourself some headspace in preparation? And has your word for the year been helpful?

Never did settle on a word this year, but happy to hear your word has been useful. Headspace for me has been taken up with transitioning from work to retirement at the end of this month. Trying to set up systems and outlines of necessary actions for my replacement (not yet found) is taxing. How do I try to distill decades of knowledge and practice--much of which has become instinctual so that I cannot even begin to think of all it--much less write it down? It is making any thoughts of Christmas a bit haphazard.

What a huge challenge Mary, as is the challenge of letting go - harder I should think if you do meaningful work,,

I would have to go back and re-read to find myword for the year, freda..i am ...simply...undisciplined!...i hope to reframe, as you have done above so nicely by supposing..i will reframe “undisciplined” into simply “in the moment and spontaneous!” I am so happy that you have found a way to come to terms with what is surely one of the least enjoyable aspects of being in our world today: the paperwork!

Reframing is often a good idea isn't it. I seem to remember you talking about dealing with 'that voice' in your head? I will be trying to keep up this new attitude to paperwork until it is done!

That photo made me smile 😊
I wouldn't expect my word for 2017 (play) to be helpful but now that you ask, I notice how helpful it was in different occasions. As I think about this, I find a good word is one that shifts your mindset, it's effects echoing for the years that follow, if that makes sense.

It makes me smile too, if somewhat ruefully! It's a little tin I keep my receipt in. It does make sense to me that the annual word will reverberate into the future mindset. Play was a lovely choice! Beginning to think of next year's....
