Simply..hopping....

I've been called grasshopper brain, but it seems I have now physically turned into a grasshopper too. Lynne pointed out recently that I am constantly jumping up and down doing something or other so I thought I needed to put that to good use. (I realized when she said this that I am anxious about keeping up with everything. Barry did way way more than 50% of things around here!).

So yesterday and today I spent 10 minutes on 11 or 12 different things - 10 minutes on the sitting room, 10 minutes on clothes, 10 minutes in the greenhouse, 10 minutes on clearing the shed, 10 minutes on outdoor chores, 10 minutes filing etc etc.

I used a timer ( ! ) and stopped when it buzzed.

So at least I jumped around to some effect and got something done on all fronts.

Good exercise too...

What kind of creature would your friends call you?

(Not your enemies, your friends.)

I do this so often. You made me laugh. Force myself, on occasion, to extend my stab at things to 15 minutes! You know, really digging in. Good day, to you.

Good day to you Kathleen. You made me laugh too! I used to do 15, but have lately downshifted to 10. As long as it gets things done....

Another hopper here too. Or one of those insects with compound eyes, because I am always seeing something out of the corner of my eye that needs attending to. Then I hop to it. Maybe we need to set a timer for ten minutes sitting down to rest too.

Good idea Lucille.

An organised flitter, I think - but in my career it was an advantage as I had to respond to the public all day long, with their wide range of issues. Husband, though, is the opposite. He is capable of deep concentration for hours on end, to the point where it is difficult to even get him to stop for lunch, let alone tend to something small but urgent.
Perhaps it's partly a male/female brain thing, or maybe we are just more adaptable because we have to keep so many plates on the go.

I have to say when I am painting I am more like your husband...

I prefer to think of it as butterfly brain. Don't grasshoppers leave behind a trail of destruction?! I think you would leave the spot better off after being there. I have real problems sitting still. Sometimes it feels like I have five or six tasks on the go and stride with purpose between rooms before occasionally wondering what I was there for in the first place! Oh yes, folding laundry. Oh yes, cutting the dead flower off the plant. Oh yes, getting a glass of water. (I should do THAT more often!) Enjoy flitting. I like the timer xx

Butterfly it is Angela. I know that feeling of wondering why you are in the other room....x

Being suddenly responsible for everything can be overwhelming....Sounds like you are finding a good way to "choreograph" doing all the things that need attention.... Excellent idea, Freda!...i am going try it..:-)

Ah yes - choreographing! Like a butterfly - it is sounding better and better and less mad!

As Julia commented, I do admire your technique. I am laughing at the though of what I might resemble. Physically, at the moment--a slug. (Don't need enemies, do I?) But I had ankle surgery in Nov and then reinjured to same foot with some stress fractures, so I have spent more than six months in a tall CAM boot. Not much hopping...more gimping. On the mend. However, when it comes to my worklife...then a hopper would apply. Some days I answer as many as 70 emails, all while pulling together a huge grant proposal and managing other aspects of another very large government grant. Would that my body could get the same workout as my brain. :)

Your brain sounds very agile and I hope your body soon follows suit Mary and you can hop and dance again.
