..at the private view of Let It Snow, this is the text  that should have been on the wall....
Picture

I am happy to say that despite the weather there were quite a few people to chat to at the Meet The Artist hour yesterday. I really enjoy it when people share their memories of snow.

My little cousin being held up to the window to see snow for the first time said  'Who did that?' ( I don't recall what answer she got, if any!)

Do you have any special memories of snow you might share here?

I grew up in the Dakotas in America. In the late 1950’s my father got as far as my grade school to take me home during a blinding blizzard. There were half a dozen neighborhood children still there. He tied us all together with gym jump ropes, emptied the lost and found box to add layers and delivered us all to our homes. When the story was told days later the walk home was 2 miles through backyards and drifted roads…..uphill both ways of course! Many children stayed at school during these storms. The schools were prepared. Long ago.

While I've been through any number of snowfalls of more than 2 feet (60cm) in places I've lived or have family such as Vermont, Minnesota, Nebraska and even around WDC, it was a foot of snow in London of December 1962 that sticks in my mind. My family lived in Germany at the time but we were visiting my mother's family over the Christmas holiday. There was no way the daily milk floats could make it through the streets and my aunts (two lived on same street) were fretting, so my cousins and I bundled up and trudged our way to the main dairy over a mile from my aunt's house and back again so we could bring milk, butter and eggs back to a house full of people. Took us a long time to get there and back and to thaw out, but no one had to go without milk for their tea. :)

Back in Germany looking together with Susan at your pictures of the exhibition (which are great) and your blog. I love the story of the children who painted their own “let it snow” pictures.
Maybe we can have a longer chat next time we are over.
