Pure white tulips.
Outer order, inner calm.
This is the title of Gretchen Rubin's latest book, but I've long been a convert to this principle.
It really works for me.
Does it work for you too?

It took me more than half my life to truly understand how important “order” was for me. Without it, i experience an ongoing sense of anxiety: too much to be done, and no way to get it done. Getting rid of more than half our stuff and simplifying our home was the most healing thing i could ever have done. ...well of course there was Yoga too!...:-)

Yes ,that is the way my personality works too. I am finding it awfully hard to achieve with family and outside pressure just now. I agree with Julia about the calming of decluttering. Beautiful tulips Freda.!

Oh yes, it works for me too. The process of creating order is immensely helpful to create order in my mind. That's where I turn to when I am overwhelmed by...whatever.

I find having order in my surroundings makes me feel free. I will think a little more about what I mean by that!

LOL I eventually had to accept my orderly Germanic side - I am half English, half German and have lived most of my life in Switzerland, so I am never really here or there, but have generally felt much more English and/or Swiss... But yes, I crave order and after the chaotic child-rearing years, I wallow in it to a great extent!! It helps to be in neat and tidy Switzerland. On the other hand, it's a great procrastinator ;o Nothing serious or put-offable gets done until I have achieved that calmness around me. Hopeless cause, I suspect!

That is so interesting Swissrose. I've been very influenced by the Scandinavian love of order which made me feel so calm.

The older I get, the more I yearn for order. I seem to be constantly clearing out, but there is much work yet to be done to attain order in this house ...

Someone recently said to me about the flooding in Venice 'The tide comes in, the tidegoes out. Life goes on.' Maybe it's like that with our stuff?
