Simply..like minds....

I am pondering Cristiana's interesting post (here).

I think all bloggers probably ask themselves at times Why Blog?

One of the things that keeps me web-logging is that I know I am in touch with like minds.  Many people may read the blog, but like minds tend to stay. I am not interested in how many - I would still do it if there was only one! (I would maybe still do it if it was only me!) And I don't mind how many or few comments. I do like, when I can, to reply to them all so a big increase would be a problem. The comments, thoughtful, often insightful and always kind have helped me grow and learn.

At its best It's a two-way process, an exchange, a conversation.

The blog is where I process my thoughts about living simply. I do of course do this in my head, and could do it on paper, but I enjoy the discipline of having to think more clearly - of trying to distill my thoughts into a readable form and out of respect for my readers, hopefully an interesting/entertaining form. It's about communication ultimately.

As with my painting, I do it to express and to share my joys and sorrows and responses to the complex, difficult, miraculous and mysterious world we live in.

Also, it's fun!

Thank you so much for reading.

You blog bc it isn't about you, but all about me, Gail ;-). I need to read the lyrical way your mind thinks and uses words. I need my plain eye to see the world thru your artist's eye. Freda, keep blogging, please.

Health issues force me to live a very quiet life - although I must stress that I am not ill - so my contact with the outside world is, at times, quite limited. I am so grateful to all the wonderful bloggers out there who share thoughts and experiences, their 'take' on life, hobbies, pets gardens. It makes my life, and, I'm sure, the lives of many other readers, immeasurably richer.
So, thank you for blogging!

Isn't it fantastic to be in touch so easily with people from all around the world leading such different lifestyles in such varied environments? Love it (and wonder where you are from Linda...)

Beautifully put Freda, your post and Cristiana's. Like minds are so important. In a world which seems in some ways to be becoming increasingly disconnected, perhaps this is the way we find our tribe. Lots of thoughts on this subject, but too many to put here. I'm very glad you blog.

It's a good topic Cristiana came up with, isn't it. Perhaps you will post on it when you have time? I like the term tribe in this context - very apt.

Of all the things that happen on the web (...commerce, ridicule, news, etc.), one of the happiest, and I think most important, is the link it allows between people all over the world who have no interest other than connecting with people in a supportive and caring way. I don't comment on many blogs and I don't write one myself, although like Cristiana I probably have dozens of random thoughts I could post on one. However, I do care about the people who have taken time to share their thoughts. If I feel a link with them, I comment. Hopefully, encouraging them to know there are like-minded folks out there and even though we may be thousands of miles, customs and cultures apart, we are able to connect. And isn't that a gift.

So thank you, Freda. I certainly do appreciate your gift.

And as is the custom with gifts it is reciprocated by your attention and response. Thank you Mary.

While spending much time writing, sometimes for a reader, often for my eyes only, my blogposts - except for the four guestposts I wrote for a friends' blog a couple of years ago - stilll don't make it over the threshold of my head.
Maybe one day when I feel more sure about my voice, and my ability to create a blog as a home where communication is sincere and images are consoling when the day is cloudy.
Like yours.

Cath your sincerity is beyond doubt and it is quite a low risk thing to write a blog really. Why wait? You can learn as you go....

This is why I was sure I would love to read your words on the subject, Freda. I believe there's a special power owned by the artists that spreads beauty on everything they touch, your words are not just truthful, positive, kind, entertaining or fun, they are also poetic and beautiful.

While you're busy composing blog posts in your head, I'm busy trying to think of good/interesting responses w/o taking 3 days! I did a lot of my letter-writing while swimming laps...I came up w interesting topics, I was concise, I was witty, but when I got back on dry land, my mind went blank.

Cathy I am laughing! Imagining you typing underwater somehow to capture those thoughts...
I do sometimes miss comments - life races on so fast doesn't it!

It was so lovely to discover so many others who shared by interests and aims when I started blogging. It has been fantastic too to link to so many others in different countries. I find so much inspiration and knowledge from my blogging friends too. Sarah x
