Yes, same title as yesterday, but yesterday I meant it literally.

Today with an announcement that easing of the lockdown may be imminent here in Scotland, I mean it in the sense that things may be getting better!  It can't come soon enough. The strain is beginning to tell.

Normally pretty disciplined about what I eat, I binged yesterday on treats and fell into a 'sugar -sleep' on the sofa in the afternoon. It's all too easy to start thinking What does it matter?

What does it matter if I write a blog post tonight or leave it till tomorrow? What does it matter if I wash my hair today, if I put off changing the bed for one more day, if I don't bother cooking tonight....If I skip the death tally today.

Perhaps what matters for me right now is to find sweet things to do for myself that don't involve sugar!

Pick little posies of lily of the valley to put beside the bed
and in the bathroom. Check.

Light a candle. Check.

Have a daytime bath. Check.

Send a loving message to someone else who is alone. Check.

Wear something different. Check.

Suggestions welcome!

Trivial perhaps, but also quite important. As so often it's the little things that make a difference and help us maintain our equilibrium.

What matters to you right now?

A change in the weather has brought me in from the garden - the good weather and the garden have kept me going for weeks - so although I'll continue my survey of the garden design I'll also take a fresh look at my sheltering space... home.

Only eight blackbirds to go now, Freda. A heron is a regular visitor to the ditch behind our apartment, I can see her/him from my study or the kitchen.

What matters to me just now... it might be spotting the heron in the morning, or a butterfly passing by, Rilke's poetry in small dose of one a day, giving myself ample time to do what needs to be done,
reading (about) inspirational women, having small joys to look forward to.

That all sounds very calm Cath. I especially like giving yourself ample time to do what needs to be done.

Yes it’s getting hard to stay motivated. Two things helped me yesterday: one was joining the free virtual Hay Festival for An Evening with the Wordsworths, and the other was booking a virtual performance of Toast by Nigel Slater which for a small charge includes a programme, a recipe card and two walnut whips!

Those sound like fun things to do! How do you get the walnut whips?

I have heard it called the coronacoaster and certainly my mood seems to vary from day to day for no real reason. I reckon that if it is only odd days that I lose motivation then that is not too bad as we all have good days and bad days. Might be a problem if it is day after day though. All your treats sound lovely and phoning a friend is always good. I go for a walk to motivate myself for general tasks but something I'm really fed up about requires chocolate as a reward at the end. Maybe not the answer you were looking for.

I love to hear about different ways of coping with 'coronacoaster - great name! Several friends are saying they can't concentrate on anything for long, or focus.

first day there hasn't been rain, so we headed out for a walk. the farmer's markets are starting to pop up - saw duck eggs for sale for the first time...ever. also saw an indigo bunting...no mistaking that blue & such a rare sight. i won't forget that anytime soon. came home to find am actual letter from a long-time friend in the box...always good to hear what she's up to. i have 4 books started, but can't settle on just 1. this is so unlike me; i'm generally a 1-book-at-a-time person. don't want to jinx myself so i'm not going to tell you i've finally gotten a hair appointment this coming week & am keeping my excitement to myself.
