Do you press leaves between sheets of newspaper, under the rug?

Lidl sell these long matches in packs of three..

useful and beautiful. And cheap.

On the theme of simple things that please you (see here) here is a list from Mireille Guliano -
Walking on the beach, touching a pet, eating an orange, picking up and sniffing a piece of wood...

And from Vita Sackville West -
Walking on crisp snow, running a stick along railings, stamping on a nut, stripping the shell from a hard boiled egg, writing with the ideal nib, plunging into the sudden comfort of warm water on a cold night.. (See Cornflower Books here)

I'd like to add listening to owls and the laughter of children to my list.

Any to add?

starry sky..esp.early in the morning when i go out to get the paper, and maybe even better when it is cold outside.
swimming in a lake, smelling a flower, crunch of snow underfoot, rain on the roof, first frog songs in spring, smell in the drawer of an old, old piece of furniture from ontario....:-)

Oh yes - starry skies on a frosty night! Lovely list Julia. Thanks for sharing.

Crawling into flannel sheets on a cold night, my granddaughter holding my hand, and casting on a new knitting project are some of the simple things I enjoy.

Fresh sheets are one of life's pleasures, but a trusting child holding your hand takes some beating. Thanks for adding to the list Kristie.

I love listening to owls too! Also listening to rain on the roof, wind in the treetops, Bach. . . .

I loved holding my babies (now both grown!) I love walking through autumn leaves and looking at winter stars. Hot coffee on a cold early morning.

I love a beautiful garden (like yours!).

It's a pleasure to finish cleaning my house (to enjoy that short period of complete order and lemony-clove freshness). It's a pleasure to successfully complete a really hard crossword. A special pleasure to read the last page of an exceptional book and just feel "wow" (such a rare pleasure).

And curlews? And when someone hands you their newborn to hold for the first time....Doing a fiendish Su Doku (without putting in little numbers!). We are about to sit down for dinner Karen and I will go and put on some Bach. We are so fortunate are we not? Thank you for commenting.

I actually get huge pleasure from reading Vita's list! Also, those matches are going straight onto another list.

I'd quite forgotten the fun of rattling a stick along railings until I read Vita's list (must find some railings....)

Yours and commenters -all had lovely ideas.

I press leaves between 2 sheets of wax paper. When I finished ironing clothes and turn off iron, I press leaves when iron is still warm. Be sure to use pressing cloth atop the waxed paper.

What a good idea Gail - that probably preserves them for longer. Thank you!
