..to take me out of myself.

I loved yesterday's concert programme. Schumann, Huw Watkins (the pianist for the whole concert), Sally Beamish who was present for the premier, and Debussy.

That morning I had heard on Radio 3 a composer new to me - Emily Hall, sing a song called I Am Alone and couldn't wait to find out more....listen here. So today was spent listening and learning.

I had coffee after the concert in also new-to-me Cafe Francoise on Byers Road - thank you Ann!

It sounds a lovely concert and, like you, I bless Radio 3 for introducing me to new performers. As part of the 30 On 30 feature I heard Laura Mvula's Sing to the Moon performed by the BBC Singers and was transported out of the rush hour traffic to a far lovelier place. So lucky to be able to enjoy music.

I always have either Radio 3 or Classic FM on. It was on Classic FM that I first heard this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DW2PY9QncAvv I also love Thomas Tallis, and almost anything that Harry Christopher's 16 sing, and everything stops for the Miserere. I know absolutely nothing about music of the 20thC for some reason!

Music is so powerful isn't it? I love it, but listen to it sparingly. I find the experience so intense and it makes such an impact that a little goes a long way for me. I listen in the car sometimes, or in the evening, but seldom in the day. Like you I love it when I stumble across something new that speaks to me. I can't bear background music though, especially in shops or restaurants - sensory overload!

Very powerful. I am finding too much music in TV dramas and films - sort of telling you how to react to what's happening....

Music! And elegant cafes also! I’ve gone through all kinds of phases with music...and am currently in a very quiet period...was just thinking of that today, that i might not even take cd’s to the cottage with me this summer...just have forest and lake sounds.

I find my feelings about music are similar to Lotta's. What always surprises me is how moved I am when attending a musical performance (especially a classical one), but that is not something I am able to do often simply because of the logistics/cost. The violin is my favorite instrument.
