Simply..my word for 2018....

Of course my real and true word is Simply. As in Live Simply Simply Live. It's been my guiding word since I started this blog nearly eight years ago.

But it's taken an age to decide for 2018! A few weeks ago I thought I had settled on autonomy, but it began to feel full not of excitement and freedom as I had first thought but heavy, weighted  with responsibility. I read Susannah Conway's quite in-depth course which had some good ideas but nothing felt quite like something I wanted to stay with for a whole year.  I spent a tearful evening looking through some of the many beautiful cards my husband Barry sent me  - always carefully chosen and with a loving and thoughtful message.

In one card he wrote -

Because we share a love of music
Because we share a love of art
Because we share a love of gardening
Because we share a love of learning
Because we share a love of life and each other
Because we share

I decided share would be my word.

Then another evening late, feeling the satisfaction of completing a task I had been putting off for ages I realised I need these two words for 2018

DO  IT

Then the thought came to me
Do it GENTLY
Ah, there it is!
There's my word!
GENTLY.

If you've chosen your word would you like to share it here?

Gently!...especially with yourself...one for all of us to think about!

i have decided that this year, in honor of my own undisciplined self..i will not torture myself by choosing a word that i promptly ignore and forget!
Freda, with every precious memory of Barry that you share with us, i realize again, how deeply you loved, and were loved. Sending warm hugs. Grief takes its own path to recovery. Gentleness is a perfect word for this time in your life.

I remember Julia coming upon the phrase 'choreographing your grief' and latching onto that. I liked the idea I had some control! It seems to have a life of it's own though and Gently seems my best approach....Metaphors abound!

I couldn’t come up with 1 word. So I’m grabbing the promise in Ephesians 3:20 as my word.

I had to look that up Gail. Handing over to a higher power seems to me to be the gist of it? There is a lot to be said for that I am sure.

Waffling between a couple of words--though one keeps coming up in odd moments and strange ways--probably telling me something. Though I probably have more in common with Julia - more than a bit undisciplined about these things. Good about theory, less so about execution. Which is why my house has not yet fallen under the spell of Ms Kondo.

You could have two words - who's to say you can't? I'm curious to know what they are....

Transform(ation). Adapt(ation).

The first one seems more active and positive; the second one, perhaps too passive? Thinking in terms of how I to approach with my first year of retirement.

Or something that takes the pressure off like Evolve...? (Don't want to complicate the issue though!)

Maybe journal about them....or roll them around in your mouth for a bit and see if one tastes juicier than the other?

Gently sounds perfect Freda. And I remember you saying once in a post that one of the things you loved so much about Barry was his gentleness. x

I liked 'simply'...that would be a good word. then you introduced 'share'...another good one. Gentle seems to fit you...your gentle spirit, along with a gentle aproach to things. I like gentle for you. Me? Haven't come up with one...i might follow julia's lead this year. know an antonym for procrastinate? That would be a good one for me to work on.

I like gentle , and I like kind. I think the world needs more gentleness and kindness this year, and I think I’m going to start with being kind and gentle to myself. X
