Simply..new inspirations....

I watched with interest a feature on Gardeners' World about Old Blenbean Stud Garden, created by Cariol Bruce. A gorgeous garden though what interested me most (and they didn't elaborate on it) was that she is the only gardener. She said that with the right tools and methods it wasn't difficult to do all the gardening herself. I wanted to know more!

On her quite extensive website I  especially liked this piece Making The Garden Step By Step

Also worth reading are the FAQ's which give insights into her rather unusual approach.

She begins by asking herself what kind feeling she wants the garden to evoke, so I am going around the garden asking myself that questin  of each different area. In the main sitting area I want to feel relaxed, at home, at ease. I want scent and abundance and am willing to take a relaxed attitude to a few weeds in the gravel, and to be happy about self sown this and that...I want plenty of seating (safe seating - must replace some very old chairs) for family and friends...

I like this approach and several other ideas from Carol Bruce. I hope she is writing a book.

Thank you for the link to Carol Bruce's garden website. I did see her on Gardener's World but didn't quite take in the scale of her task and really all one can say is "Wow". Never mind the amount of work in maintaining a beautiful garden like that the vision behind it is astonishing and she must be a very capable woman and maybe a teeny bit scary. Inspiring but suspect my muddle of a garden would be marked must try harder. Enjoy your time in your garden, Freda, and hope you are still not feeling poorly.

She does use the word discipline quite often! But so impressive. There is a gardening book called a gentle plea for chaos. If it is a happy ground somewhere between the two? I’ve been feeling great thank you with no symptoms at all. Very strange, but with negative test I am now free again. Hurrah! I hope you have enjoyed the sunny weather too Sheena.

What a fascinating approach to making a garden ! I think I'd find Carol Bruce slightly intimidating and expect she'd be horrified at my fumbling efforts. I love the idea of her method but think I lack the talent or ability to work that way. Might try on a very small scale. Glad Covid isn't stopping you from enjoying your garden and this spell of gorgeous weather.

Trying this on a very small scale it’s a brilliant idea. Pockets of perfection.

A good idea for some blog posts thank you!
