Simply..not my usual fare....

Last weekend In my search for something different I had a lunch of haggis in filo pastry with a whisky sauce, vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce and strawberries, a small glass of wine and a coffee, served on fine china by charming staff, surrounded by amazing flowers (not all real but the lilies were) and lit by chandeliers! All for £19.50. I just love the over-the-top grandeur of The Dome.

Well, once a year :-)

Then a quick tour of Harvey Nichols shoe department..

These shoes made me think of Cruella de Ville. £650.

See more amazing shoes at unbelievable prices here.

Have you done anything just for fun lately?

Can you think of something fun for this weekend?

Last year my last pair of high heels was donated. Not as high as the Cruella de Ville pumps, yet coming close. Even though I did find them very elegant (Cruella's too) I'd not taken them from their box to wear, for many years. Guess I've become a bit dull when it comes to shoes.

My something fun for this weekend might sound dull too.. As I have been feeling 'under the weather' I will hide in a stack of books about (writing) diaries. Part of them my own, part of them requested through ILL from the library. I am not sure what I am looking for, yet looking forward to browsing already.
And I will have buckwheat pancakes for dinner. That will surely make me happy.

That sounds like a jolly nice weekend plan to me!

I want those shoes!! Don't have any place to wear them & I bet they'd kill my feet...but I really like them. And no, my real name is not Cruella.

Not doing anything fun...Dad died unexpectedly & I'm the one taking care of everything.

Cath...tell me about the books about writing diaries.

I am so sad to hear that news Cathy. There is a huge amount to do after a death.

(I too would like to know more about those books)

On my desk are:
* Thomas Mallon: A Book of One's Own, People and their Diaries
As this book is about existing diaries I only will read the Introduction and Chapters 1: Chroniclers, 3: Pilgrims, 4: Creators
* Christina Baldwin: Life's Companion, Journal Writing as a Spiritual Quest, this is a reread, I will only read Chapter 2: How to Write a Spiritual Journal
* Julia Cameron: It's Never Too Late to Begin Again. For now I plan to read the Introduction, specifically the part about Morning Pages (I do those already) and Memoir.

I am afraid the rest of the books are all in Dutch and as far as I know not in translation available. To give you an impression: two have The Diaries of Etty Hillesum as point of reference, one is about diary writing and passion, one is about autobiographical writing from an anthroposofical point of view, two are about diary writing either as a kind of mirror or as inner pilgrimage, one about writing your spiritual legacy and the last one is about diary writing and creativity.

I don't aim to read all these cover to cover. I want to select parts that fit and I have no idea what that would be about just now. I write a diary since I was fourteen and somehow I find it very interesting at the moment. I plan to discover what fits by reading the table of contents and by sort of walking through the books.

We have been reading an old diary here...my husband's great-grandfather's from 1873...and what a dull life he had!! There is only one tid-bit of excitement in it...he mentions taking a lady out and having the most fun EVER.....but waht entailed in 1873, the reader is left to imagine...hahaha
