Simply..organised enough?

Staying organised is the challenge really - it is an ongoing task but here are a few links (thanks Julia) which may be of interest. The subject still fascinates me!

This new book has a very strange cover photograph - who would organise their books this way? It would be almost impossible to find the one you wanted! (am I missing something here?). Otherwise a very sensible sounding book.

Marie Kondo has kids - How is she coping?
Beautifully I suspect.

The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning (?). I don't think this will be a bestselling title somehow....what do you think?

I agree - I would never find my books arranged like this, or colour-coded, for that matter, despite being a visual person... I prefer categories!

All interesting links, thankyou.
I do think, though, that organising is secondary - you can't organise clutter :o Getting rid of that first, and as much as possible, is essential. Order then becomes simply logical and actual organising not all that necessary... the old adage, everything has a place and everything in its place, perhaps?!

I do categories and like with like colours within! And that old adage is exactly right.

enjoyed all the articles, even though i'm past the phase of having small children. probably the best advice given is to just not bring in more stuff than needed. I thought the books were arranged in an 'artistic' manner, but if you Freda, as an artist can't see it, then that must not be how they're arranged. I frankly don't see the point on having the pages show & not at least the spines to see the titles. do the page colors blend better w the wall color? my only thought. what about you Lotta? as another artist, what do you see?

I can't make any sense of it at all! Not bringing in more stuff is key - simple really.

At first glance I assumed it was the 'before' picture, but now I'm wondering if that one little pile of books with their spines showing is meant to represent being 'organised enough' amongst the rest of the chaos... Either that or the author is expounding divination as an organisational tactic! There are only one or two of my books so well read and battered that I'd recognise them by their pages! I do organise mine my colour - my memory is almost entirely visual so it works best for me :-) I haven't had a chance to read the articles yet but they look really interesting.

Although the title is a bit off-putting, the Swedish book seems to capture my mindset these days. I really don't want to leave an unnecessary amount of "stuff" for my children to sort after I am gone and I am pretty tired of most of it myself.

With my retirement coming up, my office asked if I wanted the special memento (wall plate) they give to folks who have worked there as many years as I have. I declined. Told them I was getting rid of tchotchkes, not adding.

Being tired of stuff is a good enough reason to get rid isn't it. And good for you for saying NO THANKS!

We just returned from our summer in canada..and with all the work it took to unload our STUFF, i am ready for a good death cleansing for sure. And i read with interest, on that same site, the article called: all you need is one. That is going to be my new motto. As you say, freda, the key is to not bring it into your life to begin with! Great articles.
