Simply..prettying up the greenhouse....

I don't grow nearly as many plants from seed as I once did and decided to partly re-purpose the 6' x 8' space into a 'sitooterie' - a wee place to sit out in.

I had to make do with what I could find....

Jasmine (£5 from the supermarket) Also from the supermarket lemon balm, trailing lobelia,  scarlet gerainiums and pinks.

From seed I have gypsophila, dill and night scented stock. I had such pathetic germination from all of these usually easy seeds that they were not worth putting in the garden but I potted them up individually and grew them on, and they have really prettied up the greenhouse. One little nicotiana seedling appeared from somewhere and I gave it a pot to itself too.

Plants were difficult to get online with long waiting times for delivery, but by ordering a special selection from Fibrex Nurseries I got five scented leafed geraniums quite quickly (good service,  good price and great plants).  I had now realised that scent was the thing to go for.

I ordered the heliotrope from Srah Raven at the same time as the sweet peas and although they have only just come they are good plants and fill the air with scent already.

Nothing rare or difficult or expensive but all sparking joy!

There’s just something so satisfying as growing plants from seeds

My nose is “deaf” -can’t smell bc of auto immune disease. But years ago, when my nose worked, I grew scented geraniums, dozens of them. So much fun Enjoy your plants.

What a shame you can no longer enjoy this particular pleasure Gail. And how curious we don't have a word for it....
Love growing from seed!

Loving your tiny little conservatory. Scented plants adds another layer of comfort.

It really does feel special and comfortable. And all for very little effort really.

Oh, this is lovely! My garden is a little "puffed out" at the moment as, here in the east, things have been a bit dry and even a thorough rain doesn't seem to help much. I'm having to water my Crocosmia for Goodness sake. But the summer jasmine is still giving me a whiff of gloriousness as I pass under it to the shed and my Phlox are starting to make themselves known beside the path. Have you read Jenny Joseph's "Led by the Nose"?

I take it all back. We’re having proper rain and I’m not going to need to water anything this evening!

Your garden sounds lovely and I am glad it has rained properly for you!

Your sitooterie is so pretty and the scent must be delicious when you open the door in the morning. It is reassuring to hear others had problems with seed germination as I was putting it down to operator error but now we can blame it on a bad seed year. I'm sure your greenhouse will give you pleasure all summer and the scented geraniums will do well in the house in winter.

It's been an odd year in many ways garden-wise but still a great pleasure and I love this 'new' bit..

Love scented geraniums! There is a wild one that grows here (Washington State in the US) that looks very similar to the solid pink one you ordered but here the flowers are quite pale pink. I find I really enjoy growing things in pots. I seem to have better success as for some reason I tend these plants better than I do plants in the ground and garden. Beautiful mix of color!

They do need daily watering though and had I not been at home so much I might not have done this. On the other hand you can move pots about....I think you will have more extreme weather conditions to contend with Lisa.

This is lovely! Reminds me of making a "wee hoose" out in the garden shed (an Anderson shelter) when I was a child. But yours is much prettier and more fragrant!

My Dad had an allotment with a greenhouse - happy memories!
