Simply..remembering our robin....

Our little garden companion of many years has left a gap....I blogged about him quite often here, here and here, and in lots of other posts too.

We loved that little bird!

But there are cats, there are sparrowhawks, and he was very old.

For a robin.

We're feeding the female, though she won't come to our hand the way he did. It can't be easy being a single Mum of quintuplets...

Robins are the dearest things. Maybe the responsibilities of parenthood just got too much and he needed a break. He may be back?

We'd love to think he might be back, but he has never once been away - he was there waiting at the door every single morning (and would hop inside if it was particularly cold!) and around the whole day long, for years and years....a very dear thing as you say Jessica.

I remember reading all your posts about your tame robin - I guess they all have to die sometime, natural causes or not - you were lucky to have him around for so long. The garden won't be the same without him - maybe another one will adopt you.

So many people loved that robin Elaine! Family, friends, the postman, the Jehova's Witnesses who come each year and look for him, the visitors to Open Gardens, and all the people around the world who read the blog. He didn't know (or care) that he was famous!

That's sad Freda, robins have such big personalities it's like having a friend in the garden. I'm glad you're feeding the mother, maybe one of the young ones will befriend you like he did.

He was so trusting. On a cold day he would sit in the palm of your hand and spread his wings and hunker down to enjoy the warmth!

We are hopeful too Sarah....and keeping mealworms close by (robins LOVE mealworms!)
