I first heard this when working for the National Trust at Beningbrough Hall near York. I was teaching a watercolour class on a perfec smmer day in the walled flower garden and this song came floating out of the shop! Idyllic! Utterly romantic. I felt I was in heaven.

That's Aled Jones! Absolutely beautiful. It gets played on Classic FM sometimes, which is where I heard it first - although he won't/can't play it in a show that he is presenting!

Have loved this song by Handel all my life. It is considered the ultimate song about unrequited love. Aled Jones and Tom Allen have very different but wonderful versions on YouTube, and it beautifully features when the hero is in the WW1 trenches in the tv version of 'Parade's End.' Thank you for sharing this.
